Pre-Op Jitters

Hi fellow LIW!
My hyster is this coming Thursday the 18th -- my doc wanted to meet with my DH and myself at his office to go over questions - and tell us what to expect after, etc. My BP was VERY high (unlike me) and my heart rate was up too - he gave me some Xanax. I'll tell you, it works! I cut the pill into quarters and it takes the edge off.

This weekend I am the queen of food shopping, laundry doing and home cleaning. My DH reminded me that he knows how to shop and that I shouldnt worry too much

I hope they don't try to suck every last bit of energy out of me at work for the 3 days I'm there. I can't drink after 12 midnight on Wed and my surg isnt till 1 pm on Thursday afternoon. UGH.

I'll be in touch. I'm SOOOOO glad I found this site a while back. It has been the ONLY thing that has gotten me through this.

My castle date is Thursday too!

I am having pre-op jitters also and like you my date at the castle is Thurs at 8:30 am. I have to be there at 6 am. Oh, Boy! I feel like making a run for it. I am also doing shopping and marathon cleaning. Its like the nesting instinct I had before I had my babies. Of course, I have my period right now....cramps and all. I can't take any asprin or ibuprofen products before surgery so I am suffering them out....It feels kind of weird to actually know that this is my LAST period....I remember my first oh so long ago! My blood pressure was a little high at my pre-op visit also....I had a ton of questions for my gyn..I just can't believe it is really going to happen....I am scared! Hope all goes well for you Lisa in Conn. I will hold us both in prayer for thurs for an uneventful surgery with a smooooooth safe recovery! How many days did your dr. say you would stay in the castle? Mine said 3. That surprised me.....I thought they boot you out after a day or so!!

Pre-Op Jitters

Hi, All, I just wanted to interject something regarding knowing that you're having your last period.

I had my surgery on March 4th and I'm in my 6th week of post-op. Anyway, when I was cleaning the apartment the week before going to surgery, I was kneeling down in my bathroom and noticed some packages of sanitary pads that I had and actually began to feel a little blue about this being my last one -- especially since I don't have any kids. I actually felt like I should have some type of ceremony to say good-bye to my "womanhood". Then it dawned on me that I don't have to have kids to be a parent and that made me feel so much better.

Whenever I'd tell people that I'm having a hyst, they give me this glazed over look, especially when I say I don't have kids. I think they start to feel sorry for me that this has happened and I didn't have the opportunity to become a parent. That's when I give them my speech about parenthood and adopting kids.

So, hang in there and know that the waiting is the hardest part. I hope that you all have a non-eventful surgery and recovery and are soon home from the castle.

Love, s and a speedy recovery to you all.

Pre-Op Jitters

Hi Halogirl and Paula
Halo - I had my last period last week and it was the weirdest feeling. How are we ladies so attached to these organs that A) we can't see and B) give us SO much trouble? LOL.
I have mixed feelings about all of this. No, of course I don't WANT to have this done.
And Paula - I, too get the glazed over look from people when they hear I am having this done - must be because I don't have kids (by choice). Everyone has an opinion but thankfully it's not like when you are having a baby and people feel they need to tell you horror stories about delivery! I don't WANT to hear any hyster horror stories.

Halogirl, my surg is at 1 and I think I have to be there at 11. Will find out Tuesday at the hospital pre-op. He said the insurance co. will pay for me to be there till Saturday late morn/early afternoon. I imagine by then I'll be really ready to come home to my own bed and my DH (who is a nurse ) and my wonderful baby girl Airedale Terrier. I'm going to need lots of kisses. My DH is happy I found this site and he knows that the first thing he has to say to me after my surg is "Yay, you're a punctured princess"! -- everytime he tells me he's going to do this I laugh. He also has the "pillow police" lingo down too. I just hope I don't make him too crazy while I'm home for so long.

Thanks for both of your posts
Halo - 4 more days. Sigh. We have to go in with a positive attitude. It's all we can do. It will make all the difference in our stays at the Castle.

Halo...where in Michigan are you? I am about 30 miles north of Grand Rapids, surgery is Tuesday!! I think we all feel the same way, I do have one son, and that's all I ever wanted, but I still get a little sad that I am 31 and there will never be anymore! But then again, I am so ready for this surgery...can't wait--2 more days

Got Jitters 2

I go in for surgery on Wednesday and I am so afraid. I've been praying and seeking comfort and I'm still feeling a lil crazy. Done all the cleaning and shopping I'm going to do this last past week. I've also been reading alot, and surfing the net looking for support groups. I thank God I found this place

Hey, Tray, it's a good thing you found this site before going into surgery. Unfortunately, I didn't find it until after I'd had surgery, but I still marvel at the stories from our hystersisters, both past and present.

Sites like this are a joy !! If nothing else, they give you the sense that you're not alone in attempting to handle something so devastating as a hyster and they offer good, sound advice on what to look forward to, what to do before and afterwards, or not to do, that would make all the difference in the world for a non-eventful recovery.

My doctor is a male, and I'm sorry, but he can't tell me what it feels like to have a hyster. He can only hint at some things that some of his patients have told him. It's not like you can call them up on the phone and talk to them about their experience, but here you get first hand information and how the operation has effected everyone.

I'll always be a member of the hystersister site and try to always offer my opinion of what has and hasn't worked for me -- especially to the LIW.

Hope all goes well with you, too, MMJ93 and Halogirl. Let us know how you're progressing on the post-op side when you feel up to it.

Many Blessings and s to each of you and we look forward to hearing from you real soon.

Tray!!!!!!!Hey another Jersey girl!!!!!!!!What part?Im in Monmouth County
Paula, I have a male Dr. I would have no other. I am a nurse. It has bee n MY experience that women are less sensitive. Just because he does not have a uterus does not mean he cannot sypathize with your pain and suffering. I don't have a penis but It does not mean I can't sypathize with a man having pain and problems in his"special" anatomy! Im not trying to sound mean And I hope it does not come across that way. I am stating MY exerience. I think men are wonderful caring compassionate people DR.'s what ever lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not all women Dr's are insensitive I prefer men. Hugs and to everyone going to the castle in the AM...................................Good luck and I will see you on the other side. Angela

I am between Flint and Saginaw, Mid-Michigan! It was such a beautiful day today! Gosh, your castle date is almost here! I am getting so nervous...Today, we had my son's birthday party because I am going to be in the castle when his big day is here. Part of me wants to have it (tahbso) now and get it over with....the other part of me wants to run for my life!! One minute I am calm as a smoooooth...and the next I am acting like a nincomepoop!!!! I am paranoid about getting sick...I freak when anyone coughs around me....I really hope everything turns out ok......with having the breast ca in November I think my imagination is getting the best of me......I will be relieved when the path report is back and I am going to just believe that it will be good news. Take care....I will be praying for all of us!
