April 16 Surgery/Sinus Pain?

I am scheduled for tuesdays visit to the castle. However, I am NOT healthy enough for it.

I am highly allergic to grass...yes, everyday grass. I live on Long Island, NY and they are starting to cut their lawns already...
I have ear pain, eye pain, pressure behind the eyes and a banding feeling around my forehead..not to mention ringing in my ears..and fullness..this is not a good time to have surgery..and yet I know they will barrel forward to do what what scheduled.

How in the world can i have this surgery when my head hurts?
I went to an ENT and he said the ears werent red, so not an ear infection. possibly TMJ combined with the allergies..Tylenol not working..today is Sunday..surgery is in two days..

I feel like if i go into surgery with all this "head" stuff, I will surely come out worse..and after a surgery like this..who needs that?
So far, my doctor has not discouraged the surgery??

I would hate to go ahead with surgery and later on say to myself: I KNEW is should have waited... Should I listen to my gut feeling...or go with it and deal with the consequences??

April 16 Surgery/Sinus Pain?

Hi Debz,

I too am a big time allergy sufferer. I suffer all year long with no breaks. I am allergic to everything under the sun with the exception of dogs. My little Pug is the only thing I'm not allergic too. So, if I had to wait until I felt okay to have my surgery, my surgery would never happen. I know when I go in for mine (sometime in June) I most likely will be miserable. Summer is the absolute worst time, because like you, I too am allergic to grass. I am hoping whatever drugs they have me on will alleviate the headaches and get me through.

I would think as long as you don't have a sinus infection you should be okay. There is not too much to do when you have everyday allergies, but if you developed an infection I would think your doctor, at that point, would postpone. This is just one girl's opinion though.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

April 16 Surgery/Sinus Pain?

Debz,

Exactly...if you have allergies to grass, when will you feel good?
January? I'm pretty sure you can't have anything like sinus tylenol being so close to your surgery date. Here in sunny Calif. where we cut grass year around, I see people with the filter mask on their face. Alot of home filters are sold here too.

I sure feel for you. Let us know what you do.

allergy sufferer here too!

HI, i feel your pain! I too am highly allergic! I am allergic to everything outside in the state of alabama-actually had one doc tell me to move somewhere else, yeah thats practical, LOL. I am just now getting over a sinus infection, and i have been cleared for surgery (same day as yours). i am on flonase, zyrtec AND zyrtec-d to help control my symptoms, and still got a sinus infection, so you should be ok, probably will feel a little worse afterwords, but when you are on iv, you are more hydrated and that does help with the junk clogging up your head. but hey if i waited till my allergies went away, i would have to move first, LOL. take care, try and rest as much as possible, you should be fine, sending get well hugs your way!

hmmm...

That pain is getting worse in my head and behind my eyes..had to take two extra strength tylenols...and they just aint workin...
How would i know it was a sinus infection?
I dont have "green" discharge...but my throat feels a little sore..

What would happen if i had the surgery and DID have a sinus infection after all?

April 16 Surgery/Sinus Pain?

Hi there,
If you do have a sinus infections they will get antiobiotics going into your iv.

I have tons of allergies and asthma. I have allergies to grass, trees, colorings, laundry soaps, perfumes, etc. The list is on and on.

My hesterectomy is tomorrow. But I had emergency surgery in September that put me in the hospital for two weeks. They deal with allergies and sinus problems so much it wasn't an issue. Many surgeries are emergencies and you cannot wait.

I did have an allergic reaction to a food, rang for the nurse, she came right it (this wasn't a major one that required epineprine) so she just put Benadryl in my iv. I was immediately fine.

Make sure your doctor knows how you feel and if it were me, I'd let him make the call. I can't think of a better place to be for my allergies and asthma. Many times I have been rushed in to the hospital in anaphylatic shock and they are the ones who take care of it.

They will take good care. They did me and I was very greatful. Best wishes and I'll see you post op soon.

Take care, Kathy
