Bladder discomfort

Hi, I had my TAH on 4/8 everything went great. I am feeling really good except some pains when I start to urinate.
It's not during just before like little sharp pains. I saw the Dr on Friday and she took a sample and said everything was OK it was probably from surgery, and it should subside. It hasn't and it worries me, does anyone else know about this problem?? Thanks

Bladder pain

Hi Leslie. I had my surgery Feb 25th, and I still have some bladder pain. My pain was more like spasms, especially when I was almost finished voiding. At first I thought it was a bladder infection because it didn't start until 1 week after surgery. My doc put me on antibiotics, and when it was no better after 2 weeks he did a uring culture. Nothing there. He said it was likely post op. The bladder doesn't take kindly to being manipulated during surgery. He said it could be 5-6 weeks for the pain to stop. It hasn't stopped completely yet, but it's barely noticeable. At first it was so bad I wouldn't be able to get up or move my legs for about 5 minutes after I peed. I was freaking out after a few weeks that this was going to be permanent. But as the doc said, it is subsiding. I have read where some women have taken up to 6 months to be completely bladder painfree. So be patient. Just keep on top of things and see your doctor if you're not sure. I feel so much better just this past week.

bladder

Hi, I had tah/burch sling. My bladder was attached to the uteris. I am now 4 weeks post. I had many symptoms and thought it was just from surgery but decided to get it checked and i found out it was an urinary track infection. I have gone thru 2 presc. of antibiotics and get it checked again Mon. I think it is cleared up!! I hurt a bit still when I have to pee and yes getting the last drop seems to be a little twinge.. I tip myself everywhicih way to get it emptied!! It is getting better I must say. With time I am hoping that I will pee and have none of those strange feelings!!!!! It sure will be a pleasure.
All the best..Love pam (Rainbow)

Bladder discomfort

Hi Leslie, I will be 5 weeks post op tomorrow.
I had the pain upon urinating from week 1 to about week 3. I also complained at my 2 week post op visit and doc took a urine specimien..all clear.
He told me the pain should go away soon. It did! Around week 3-4 I noticed the spasms had subsided greatly.
Take care!

Bladder discomfort

Hi Leslie, I too had the "spasms" for a couple of weeks. It seemed like getting everything started was hard, then I also would have the spasm right toward the end of going. (Like when I'd just about empty the bladder). I checked with the doctor at my one week appointment, and was told that they get moved around a lot during surgery and sometimes they don't settle down right at first. If it would continue on into next week or if your symptoms would get worse or change, I'd definately give them a call back. A lot of ladies get UTI's following their hysts. My doctor told me that is a possibility when you have a catheter put in (can expose germs to the area easier). Take care!

Thanks!

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the info with the bladder spasms, that is exaclty what they feel like! Well that is good to know that it is a "normal" part of healing.

Thanks so much!

Badder discomfort

I am so glad to see this discussed here. Thought it was just me. I had a TVH ( with right ovary left in tact), bladder repair, anterior repair on April 10,2002. The bladder pain is the only real pain I have. I am so glad to have found this sight before my surgery 'cause I was scared. I hope we all get done with our bladder pain soon so, we can get on with life.

Bladder discomfort

I'm so glad to read this thread. I too, have pain when I start and then some heavy discomfort toward the end of urination. I keep hoping it will go away soon. Today, I am just tired of waiting but this thread has given me new hope.
Thanks,

Bladder discomfort

Hi everyone. I am 4 weeks post op, and was having the same pains. I was really worried because it did not feel like a UTI, but felt like someone was wringing out my bladder everytime I had to urinate. Well, if it helps, during the last week, it has gotten much better. It is not completely gone, but getting there. Now if I could just get rid of the pain from having gas!!

Take Care-

Cheri

ME TOO

Hi everyone , me too , i also had my op on 8th April , tvh,
i went to my gyn , after 1 week , i told him that it hurt me too when i passed urine,he gave me antibiotics , but never cleared up, anyhow i finished taking the course , a few days later i had this terible itch , with blood too , so i already new it could be thrush , due to antibiotics, so i went to chemist and bought some cream , along with some megadophilus pills, well after the first day the pain has eased of , so im not sure if i had the infection now or was it thrush, but whatever it is , its clearing up. thanks to the assistants at the chemist. but ive noticed on here its a very familar problem , esp if you have the TVH . well take care and lots of from Australia xxxxxxx
