bladder repair

I am being sent to the urologist this week to discuss if I need to have bladder surgery at the same time as my hyst. The OB/GYN said it is common. What do I need to know and what should I ask the urologist?

bladder repair

Hi shannydv !
I am also having bladder repair with my hyst.--but my gyn is doing it. I guess it depends on the depth of the bladder repairs
Mine is called cystecole---due from a prolapsed uterus. So therefore my bladder has prolapsed also(thats how he explained it to me).
The gyn is going to "tack" it back up. I do not have no leaking when I cough or sneeze.
I have seen many post about bladder repair and ladies going to a
urologist.
Good luck yo you!

bladder repair

I had bladder repair at the same time as my hysterectomy. The reason that a urologist did mine is that it had to do with the neck of the bladder. It had "fallen", such that when I coughed or sneezed, I leaked. I had become dependent on maxipads every day and keeping my bladder as empty as possible. I'm now 6 months post-op and feel wonderful! I don't even have to wear minipads! I can let my bladder get full if I have to and now worry in public any more. It was a godsend for me.

I asked my urologist things like, what would happen, how long I'd have the suprapubic catheter, any recover issues, etc. FYI: They tell you that most women are not able to urinate on their own for a couple of weeks, so they have to go home with the catheter still in. I drank a lot of water to fill my bladder while I was still in the hospital. That helped to "wake" up my muscles and I got my catheter out before going home. Since the suprapubic catheter isn't the most comfortable thing in the world, you may want to ask about that.

Lisa C. :
Hello!
What is the difference between a foley cath and a suprapubic catheter ?
I was told a foley for me ---maybe 4-5 days. Never mention of the other one.
Just curious--
