Liquid Diet Recommended???

Okay I will probably find this out on Fri. when I see my doctor, but from reading some of these posts, does the doctor recommend you to be on a liquid diet a couple of days before surgery?

I know I cannot eat or drink anything after midnite the day before my surgery, but that is the norm with any surgery.

One week and counting!

Liquid Diet Recommended???

Each DR is different and has their own requirements before surgery. It is important that you follow your DR's instructions for you. For example. not all DRs require bowel prep, and they may have a reason for it, so if s/he doesn't tell you to do it, don't do it thinking they forgot to tell you. If you have questions before surgery, call and ask.

Eating lightly before surgery probably isn't a big issue, but ask at your pre op apt.

The most important thing to remember is follow your DRs instructions - surgeries have been postponed, or complications arisen by not following DRs orders.

Good luck

Liquid Diet Recommended???

That's right, every MD is different, and every situation is different. In my case I had a large ovarian mass that was irregular looking on the ultrasound and the possibility of cancer was there. So I had the bowel prep. My MD explained that it was to make sure that I was "clean as a whistle" in case it turned out to be cancer and it had spread to my bowel or close enough to it. Luckily, it was benign and it never became an issue.

I had TVH with A & P repairs
I had the liquid diet the day before surgery
the nothing after midnite
I also had to take a mild laxitve the day before surgery
but like the other sister said every doctor is different
so don't do anything without asking
and don't take anything w/o asking
