How to react to "Experts"

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience that I have had/am having? This is in regards to other people finding out about your upcoming Hysterectomy, and the unlimited, unsolicited advise. Do you notice how they know more than your DR? Of course my favorite is a male friend of ours telling me that I need my uterus and I shouldn't have a hysterectomy. Yea right, I would like to see him in my shoes during my periods. So anyone out there having the same experience?

How to react to "Experts"

I have heard more comments than I care to admit..
My mother who is a nurse, tried to discourage me..
She has seen me suffer with this disease for years..and yet, she still thows in her two cents.. and then i realized that i knew more about the subject than she did..and shes a nurse! At that point, I disregarded her silly comments and kept my plan.

How to react to "Experts"

Hi Catherine!

Yes, we are surrounded by experts with no shingle or degree to show for it!

I have learned to avoid conversations with people about my hysterectomy for this very reason.

Remember that show (I'll be showing my age now): "Kids Say The Darndest Things"? Art Linkletter hosted it. (I think that's what his show was called) I really think it would be every bit as entertaining (or even more so) if they came out with a show called "Adults Say The Darndest Things".

The only suggestion I have for dealing with those 'expert' comments is to write them down in your journal so that you can treasure the humor forever.

How to react to "Experts"

I know waht you mean about "experts", just tonight at T-Ball practice I mentioned to one of the moms that I was having a Hyst., she just looked at me, said "good luck, my sister had one and had a nervous breakdown four months later". I just looked at her with that "I can't believe you just said that look and she went on to describe all these horrible things that where going to happen to me. My opinion is now that if you have never been in pain for years, never knowing if this month you where going to have to go to the ER for a blood transfusion, and too tired to even play with your kids and scared to have sex with your husband because it might hurt than you should KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, no matter how well meaning you think you are being.

Thankfully there are people out there with feelings who try to understand.
