Incision question

There is a question at this time about what type of incision I will have with my TAH/RSO. It depends on a blood test that I had today, CA-125, to check to see if a large cyst on my right ovary might be cancerous. No biggie, right..... WRONG! I'm a nervous wreck!

Aside from that though, what is the recovery like after a vertical incision vs. "bikini cut" incision. I've had the transverse or "bikini cut" (yeah, like I'd wear a bikini anyway) before and the recovery was tough. Then again, I can be a terrible patient as I have a low tolerance for pain (which is probably why I ended up with endo in the first place).

Anyway, can anyone try to explain?

Incision question

I had a cyst on my left ovary and my CA-125 test was very high and I did not have cancer so I just want you to know that this is a possibility. Try not to get too worked up over the results to the CA-125..........I did a lot of research on these and they aren't always that reliable. If you have been diagnosed with cancer they are reliable in seeing how you are reacting to treatment but all kinds of things can make them have high results (such as having a lot of endo, or having your period when the test is done).
I had a vertical incision. I've never had any other surgery that required an abdominal incision, so I can't compare it to anything else. Recovery was not as bad as I expected it to be, but everyone is different and everyone's pain tolerance is different. I felt like my recovery was less painful that periods I had lived thru and I knew that I would feel much better in the end.
Best of luck to you.

Incision question

Dear Ann,

Thanks for responding. I just have a feeling that regardless of the result of the CA 125, I will end up with a vertical incision. I think I'll try to prepare myself for that.

Thanks for the info on this test. You have helped to ease my mind a bit. I do have extensive endo and I had my period when my blood test was drawn. So, I think I'll expect high numbers and then convince myself that there is nothing to worry about ...righto!

Besides, my Dr. just told me that she will probably ask an oncology specialist to be present since he is very good with extensive endo and adhesions. One more clue to the "possible" vertical.

Anyway, I appreciate your post and all of the Sisters out there. I'm so glad I found you all!
