no hormones for 3-6 months what will it be like?

I have severe endo. and adenomyosis and i will be getting a full hyst. on the 25th this thursday. My doctor told me that she wants to shrink the endo. as much as possible after the surgery(i have endo on my bladder and liver and some on spleen). She said that the areas that she won't be able to remove the endo.(liver to vescular)she wants to shrink it all away. The only way to do this is no hormones for 3-6 monthes. How am i going to feel without any hormones? help! I wanted to feel completely better after this surgery, now i am terrified that i will be an emotional wreck! If anyone can give me some info. on this or advice, i would greatly appreciate it.thanks everyone.

Heather,
I can answer some of your questions but I am going through this now too. Mine is a little different but I too have severe endo and it is everywhere. I had a laporoscopy on Mar 18 and had my R ovary removed along with some emdo and chocolate cysts. The endo has my intestines tied up against my uterus so I need a colonoscopy on Fri (day after you) to see if the endo is inside the intestines. Because there is so much endo in there I am on a 6 month lupron treatment.
The Lupron is going to stop my hormone production and like you I will have no hormones for at least 6 months. I also need to have my endo shrunk because otherwise my hyst is too risky. I won't have my hyst untill Oct. so I envy that you don't have to wait that long because waiting is the worst!
I can let you know that I had my first shot a week and a half ago. I have started with mild hot flashes, and I have had mild night sweats twice. So far it isn't too bad, I can't complain. I have also started with some moodiness. Friday I cried alot. My Dr did suggest that if my menopause symptoms got to be to much I could get an antidepressant to help.
I can't answer you in any more detail than that because I'm only a few steps ahead of you. However, if you need a buddie to get through this with I will be glad to help however I can. My email is always on. Good Luck on Thurs. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello Heather!

First of all, let me say that everyone is different. I can't say that what's going on with me will happen to you, but i'll share my experience. I had the same diagnosis as you. My endometriosis was moderate and the adenomyosis was severe. My DR also said no hormones for 3-6 months. I was so upset prior to surgery that I started crying a lot. My nerves were shot. I was just so afraid that I was going to be a hot flashing, night sweating, cranky monster after surgery. I even talked to my DD's(16 & 19) ahead of time, kind of warning them!!!

I had my surgery one month ago tomorrow and I'm happy to say that I'm doing fine (with that part). The only problem I had was night sweats for about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. I thought it was from having no hormones, but I've read on here that that can happen after having any major surgery. Then I was talking to my friend who told me it did happen to her husband after his apendix out. So, Just to let you know, I for one, haven't had ANY problems. I always tend to worry more about something, then find out it was all for nothing. I don't mean to sound like I'm minimizing your feelings, that's just how it is with me.

Take Care and
