Has anyone else had Laprascopic Hysterectomy?

I'm scheduled to have a TLH, total laprascopic hysterectomy with BSO on 5/15. Has anyone else had this style of surgery? There will be an incision on the inside of the vagina, they take the uterus out of the vagina, but all incisions are done through the laproscope, it is not vaginally assisted hystectomy. I'm told by the surgical nurse in the doctor's office that I'll only be admitted overnight, and that they consider this "minor" surgery.

If anyone has had this style of procedure, how was it? How was your hospital stay and how was the healing period afterwords? My doctor says it should be a two week recovery period, much like my last laparoscopy in 1997.

I had a c-section (classical, vertical incision) in 1998, and it took a long time to heal and I was really exhausted afterwords. From what the doctor says, this should be "easy." I'd feel better knowing how others have done.

Thanks for your insight and advice,
Kathryn

Kathryn,
I dont know about the surgery you are talking about, unless you are talking about a laprascopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy. They are taking cervex right?

There are many many on this board who have had a LVH (lap assisted vag hysterectomy).

Just hang out a bit, they will answer all your questions.

I am having a Laprascopic supercervical hyster on monday.. eeeek!
That one they take the uterious out from the small lap. incissions,.. leaving the cervex.

If you are having something other than what I mentioned, I am sorry I do not know what that surgery is..........BUT I am sure there will be others who will........... we got some pretty smart woman here..
take care and welcome

I'm so . What do you mean not vaginally assisted if he doesn't take the uterus out through the vagina? What does vaginally assisted mean then? I understand Donna's surgery I think. Donna, you must not have an enlarged uterus or any fibroids, right, or how could he get it through the little lap?
And Kathryn, you might try this question on the Post side and find out not only if someone is going to do it but it someone had it done and what they thought about it.

I'm not quite sure about the procedure you are describing. I had a LAVH on 2/8/02 - uterus and cervix removed, kept both ovaries. I had 4 small incisions for the scopes (1 in the belly button, 1 real low by my pubic hair, and 1 on each side where the ovaries are located). Everything was removed vaginally. I spent 1 night in the hospital; However, any hysterectomy is not a "minor" surgery - they are all major surgery. When you get home get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids, and take short walks. Take care.

Has anyone else had Laprascopic Hysterectomy?

Maralyn,

No, I have a huge fibroid.......... well I guess its all relative. Its larger than a grapefruit. They use a machine...... and basically, I can hardly bring myself to saying this........ well, cut it up and take it out the tiny lap. incissions. (get my drift)
Gross huh?
But it was what I wanted, less invasive, quicker recovery time no big incission. The vaginal hysterectomy was not an option for me....... fibroid too big to come out that way... and I never had children.. so it wasnt a go.

Hope that answers your questions.
