Sutures

Had my surgery (TAH) April 2/02 & have been following this board since about 3 weeks pre-op - it's been invaluable. Thanks to all who contribute.

A couple of things I haven't seen mentioned:
I have a vertical incision - stitched because my surgeon had time (surgery went so well!) - I still have a tail - a couple of threads with a knot at the bottom of the incision. Will this fall out eventually or does it need to be cut off? I want to start using Vit E oil but am afraid this stitch could provide an entrance for infection. My Dr. did say I could put stuff on the incision after it was completely healed over.
Also, I seem to have another suture midway, about a half inch to one side, which lies under the skin & is very sharp. I can see it poking up into the skin & it feels aggravated if it gets rubbed against. When will this dissolve?

I have my first post-op appt. in 2 weeks but if anyone has any insight I'ld love to hear it.

Thanks, Janet

Sutures

I don't have any external incisions with this surgery, but I had a lap in Feb. I had dissolvable stitches and had a knot there as well. In that case, the stitches were just under the skin and the knot dissolved in about 4 weeks. I did have one that was really bugging me and the gyn clipped it off so it wouldn't irritate the skin anymore.

Sutures

It depends on what kind of sutures were used. Give your doctor's office a call and ask them. Also ask them when it is ok to put anything on the incision site. Happy healing!
