surgeon appt, more waiting

i went to the surgeon today for the hernia and she doesn't think it's a hernia! grrrrrrr (i think). she is sending for my records from my hysterectomy dr to see what he saw when he did the hyster. she thought it may be scar tissue from my c section (20 yrs ago!) but also wanted to see what type of ovarian tumor i had. she also mentioned taking a look lapriscopically----what does this mean actually and what does it entail?

Hi Cynthia !
It sounds like maybe your dr. is just trying to be thorough- which is good ! As for your question about the lap- i had one last july. I also had my gallbladder out by lap- a lap is an excellent diagnostic tool and is usually an easy surgery . They make 3 small incisions in the abdomen & go in with a thin lighted instrument called a scope which enables them to look around inside. I believe there is some type of monitor whereby they can see everything. Hopefully another sister can come along & give you more info on it. I went home the same day when i had my scope last july (they did no cutting of any type inside). And when i had my gallbladder out i went home the next day. If i remember right, it took about a week to recover from it.
I hope they find some answers for you real soon ! 's

My gosh, we seem to be on the same road!

I too found out today that I definately don't have a hernia from my Gp(and a surgeon), however he does feel the lump and area I feel and says there is something going on , but what? So, he has ordered a CAT scan, which I am in the process of scheduling. He said it could be adhesions, could be diverticulitis, just wants to see and then figure out what to do. He is a great Doc. so I'm sure he'll help me, and if it turns out to be something for my Gyn, he said he'd be happy to send me back to him. I am clueless at this point, except that I am in pain!!!!!!!!!! The exam was painful and I hurt like h@@ now from it. I wish I had some insight for you Cynthia, as we seem to be going through a very similar situation! My pain started just 6 weeks post op but has gotten much worse. So who knows. Laparoscopic is not too bad, I had this done in Dec. 2001 which is what led to my hyst in Feb. 2002. Not to worry, sounds like you ar in good hands also. Feel free to send me a pm if you want, love to you, Tickles

Cynthia,
I'm so sorry hon. It does sound like the gs is trying to be thorough. I know that doesn't make the waiting and wondering any easier. I've been there too many times to count.

I've had several laps and I only had to stay in the hospital overnight once. Most of them were day surgeries and for me they were pretty painless.

However, no surgery should be taken lightly. Just make sure you ask lots of questions and are fully aware of what is going to be done and what will be accomplished.

Sending lots of s

thanks for the explainations on the lap...so sometimes they cut and sometimes they just look? i think i get it.
i'm starting to go crazy thinking the cancer thing again. last year before my hyst i had almost driven myself insane with worry. my tumor was benign but cancer is all through my family and i get so scared....then i get scared that i'll think myself into getting cancer. i know i just have to make my brain stop this torture!
i had this pain before my hyster so you'd think they would have seen something when they were in there.

tickles...i can't believe how our stories are parallelling and i'm glad i have you here. please keep me updated on what you find out. where exactly is your pain?

and as always ladies thanks so much for being here and i will keep you updated when i hear something.

I'm glad you're here too!!!!!!

Cynthia, we sure are going throught the same type of thing! My pain is in the lower left quadrant area, with a lump and almost swollen area that can be felt to the touch. I have a CT scan tommorow at 11:30am to rule out/see if it is, adhesions, obstrction, or diverticulitis! So, any info, I get, I will certainly pass on to you ASAP. I don't know what it will be, but, I lean towards adhesions. I too freak out about the possibility of cancer, especially having a Ds that had it at 2 1/2 years old(o.k. now so far!), but please remember, as I try to remind myself, the Dr. was just in there and I'm sure they'd have seen something like that. I say it to myself at least 10 times a day! So please let me know how you are too....I think of you all the time... Love Tickles. P.s. feel free to e-mail me at wilsonb@tellurian.com. Love, Cathy(Tickles)
