post-op numness and tummy pain

I wanted to say hi to everyone. I had my tah/bso and appendectomy done 2 weeks ago today. I was so well informed for this surgery because of this sight and i wanted to thank everyone who helped answer all of my questions. I had a question to all who have had the tah, did anyone get their appendix taken out when they had the hysterectomy? i also wanted to know if anyone had pulled their stitches(inside)? I was laying on the couch with my hubby about a week after surgery and we were watching this movie and stupid me kept watching the show even though i knew it would make me laugh and i did! I could not stop laughing even though i could actually feel it tearing the stitches inside. I have been so tender since then and it has been about a week. I just wondered if anyone else had done this and how long until it feels better? I am so glad it is over but boy i wish i would just hurry up and heal already! thanks everyone.

appendix

Hi Heather,
I had my tah/bso with appendectomy on 4/22 so I am a few days ahead of you. I don't know if I have pulled my internal stitches or not but I have alot of burning on my right side. I went yesterday for my two week check and she I was doing just fine. My scar is very hard and tender too. I know what you mean about laughing, my sister and I watched funny videos on tv in the hospital and I thought afterwards how smart was that? I'm driving now but I take my trusty pillow along. I feel like I should be doing better by now, but when I come to this site I do realize like all the 's say we did have major surgery after all!!! I hope you feel better every day, you are all in my prayers every day!
Love,
Roni

Hi there,
Post op tenderness, numbness and feelings of tearing stitches are all common, and scary. I am out 9 months and still feel some numbness. The stomack tenderness lasted 4 to 6 weeks with feeling better daily. we are tough and you won't tear the stitches. I thought I did and had it check and was okay. never hesitate to call and ask. hang tough and you will get better fast and it is greattttttttttttttttttttt!!!!

Heather,
I had surgery on the same day as you. I don't believe I have pulled any stitches (I hope not), but I have some very strong pulling sensations on the very left side of my incision area. When I need to have a BM, that area sends little "Bee Stings" constantly. Even (right now) sitting at the keyboard, that area is painful. Maybe the Dr. just pulled those stitches a bit tighter or something.

I am moving slow but each day gets better. Today was my first day I was allowed to drive. Went for a haircut. Of course, I had my trusty tummy pillow between me and the seatbelt. It was a nice change of pace to be able to go somewhere on my own.

Hope all our other April 25 sisters are doing well.

I also had my appendix removed, although I am really not sure of the why on that.

3 months out and I still have the tender belly, it is sensitive to the touch or rubbed against a hard surface, like a counter.

Have been in a store, pushing a buggy and forget all about my belly and lean into the buggy...Whoa baby.

I am learning that it will just take time, and I do believe it will take more time than most of us think. If you are like me you reach a point where things are returning to a new normal, and may forget momentarily about what happened until I am gently reminded, with a pain or twinge. Then I have to slow down and regroup.

Following surgery, I would tell people..don't make me laugh, for I didn't want to laugh and jiggle my belly. I was a better patient then. Its harder now, because I am up and about.
