Please help! 4 months post op - sex is very painful

Hi,

I haven't posted in a while. I've been doing well with the exception of having sex. It hurts so bad that I think of every excuse I can to avoid it - just like I did before surgery. I don't bleed at all but it hurts from the moment of penetration until it is over. We use plenty of lubrication so I'm sure that isn't the problem.

I was on Premarin and my gyn switched me to Climara .05 last week.

I'm sorry if this is too graphic but I don't know where else to turn. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am sorry you are having pain like that. Have you talked to your doctor about the painful sex? This is something that should be brought to your doctor's attention. There must be a reason for all your discomfort and your doctor needs to examine you to see what is causing the pain. Please have this looked at. You should gradually be feeling better after surgery and normal sexual relations is a part of that recovery. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

I agree. See your doctor. It shouldn't be that painful.

Thanks for they replies. I did go to the doctor and she just changed my hormones from Premarin to the Climara patch. She didn't seem it was anything to be concerned about. I am very concerned and I don't know what to do now since painful sex was one of the reasons I had the surgery in the first place.

If it doesn't get better go back. I know that granulation (visible scar tissue that the dr. can see if she looked ) at the vaginal cuff can sometimes cause pain during sex. Feel better.

Can you explain more about the pain? Is it a tender bruising sort of pain on the inside or a raw, tight sort of pain at the entrance or all the way through? Is it an impact kind of pain or a friction kind of pain? I had the tight, friction kind of pain for a while and even though I still have my ovaries I had to be on Vagifem (another estrogen supplement) for a little while. And it scared the *heck* out of me. It's okay to spell things out here if you need to do that to get your questions answered.

Keep after the doctor and make a special effort to convey to her that it IS something you are concerned about and you want HER to be concerned about it, too. Find out how soon you should expect relief if the Climara is the right thing for you and call back when that date passes if you're not feeling better. The doctor doesn't have to live in your body and may not understand about the pain. Sometimes you have to be a little forceful to get that across.

Please help! 4 months post op - sex is very painful

hi
i had my 4 week post op visit yesterday. my gyn brought up to me in passing that sometimes around the 3 or 4 month point sex can be painful and cause some bleeding. and IF that happens to call as there is a treatment she does internally. she didnt go into naming the condition but from reading on the bbs it sounds like granulation can be the culprit. So it certainly sounds like what you might be experiencing..... thought i would share even tho i havent shared the experience

Jandrie,

I haven't posted in a long while, but can relate to your pain. I am nearly 5 mo. post op and sex is still uncomfortable. I also have cramping after orgasm(sorry if this is too graphic), and would like to have a solution. I also have no bleeding, but sex is not a part of my life, and it was so good even with the pain and heavy bleeding! I used to look forward to 2 weeks of pain free sex each month...now it is nothing at all.

Any insite would be most appreciated!

God bless you all,

Grace

Please see......

Please go see your doctor and if he or she isn't sympathetic then go find another one. Before I went to the castle I had a male doctor that was totally unsympathetic to my concerns and I switched to an all female surgical team and it made a world of difference. They understood my reasoning for getting a SAH as opposed to anything else and even explained what to expect out of sex after I was released to resume sexual relations. Every woman deserves to have a good sex life. Just because we have had this surgery doesn't mean that we should be sexless creatures. Sometimes the trick is a female DR instead of a male one. Good Luck.
