Surgery Date Change?

Hi,
I am so confused about when I should have my surgery. First, I am new to this site and new to forums in general, so bear with me. My Doc called me with a June 18th date for surgery and I was so excited that I immediately gave a enthusiastic "Yes!" Then I realized that our annual vacation is scheduled for June 28-July 5 at a time-share we have fairly close by. It's not that simple to cancel and the dates for a variety of reasons, one being that we own our own business which we typically shut down every summer during the July 4th week. On the other hand, that may be good because my husband can be home and take care of the children and me (my mother will come and care for me immediately after my surgery). We could possibly just give away our week at the time-share (can't be rented out). When I called the Doc's office back they said I would need to wait until they received the dates for surgeries to be scheduled the next month-July. I really want to get this over with. I am sick and tired of my complicated and irregular periods and everything else inside me that needs this operation. However, maybe I will not have a great recovery and wish so very much that I had waited and went on vacation beforehand. Do I sound so petty? :confuse:
Has anyone ever had to make a decision about when they should have their surgery? Does your husband work 70 hours a week?
Well anyway, I have appreciated this site more than anyone could ever know. Bless you all.

Hi Ponypal

Welcome to Hystersisters.

I wish I had the answer for you. Naturally I don't. Have you talked this over thoroughly with you DH? What does he think?

There is something to be said for getting it over with and on to your recovery. It is only giving up one vacation in order to have a lifetime of them. And waiting an extra month can be nerve racking and miserable if you have alot of symptoms. It would be nice for you to have your DH home that week to help you and help with the kids too.

However if you can handle the wait and DH is really counting on it perhaps it is worth it to you both to wait and schedule surgery for July.

Please list out the pro's and con's and discuss it together. I know you will discover what is the best thing to do. You will get more opinions on this I am sure.

Let us know what you decide, okay?

Decisions, decisions

Pony Pal,

Wouldn't it be easier sometimes if someone else just made the decisions for us?

The way I see it, if you don't go to the time share at the regularly scheduled time, you may miss your vacation all together this summer, between recovery and not being able to get away from work again.

Personally, my surgery is 12 days away (FINALLY) and we are doing everything we can! We went to a wine-tasting party last week, mid-week! This weekend, we did two parties on the same day. My dh and I only knew the host at each party, but we had fun, just the same.

It's like we are trying to squeeze in all the fun we can before I am limited activity-wise.

While waiting is sooooo hard, time really does pass. I have had my surgery date since early April and thought it would never get here. I have set my sights on short-term goals, rather than just focusing on the surgery date. My dh and I celebrated our 20th anniversary and had a get-away weekend in mid April. So I put the surgery on a back burner, and just devoted all my thinking and planning to that weekend.

We have looked for other things to do, that we probably wouldn't even normally do, just to help pass the time and give us something else to focus on. We went to a play at a local college, something that we had never done before. It's fun trying to fill our time as we wait.

My vote is for you to enjoy your annual vacation at it's regularly scheduled time and have the surgery later. You don't sound petty at all. You deserve a vacation, as much as you deserve to feel better.

My prayers are with you that your decision making will become clear.

Nancy

Surgery Date Change?,Thank You!

Hey Gals,

Thank you for validating me on this issue. Just wanted to share that I had really radical night sweats last night and two or three nightmares that my dh woke me up from. Must be the extra stress of making this decision of my surgery date. When you are preparing for surgery it seems like it is coming up a lot quicker than the calendar indicates.
Yes, I have planned a lot of things before the date of June 18; Strawberry Festival weekend, Couples Retreat with our church, shopping with the girls. My closest friend is also having a hyster on June 28th. We seem to plan our crisis' together; breast biopsies, etc. She'll be able to "take care of me," but I'm not sure what I can do for her. I'm going to do some thing for her before my surgery. Anyway, I hope I replied back to my 'repliers' the correct way at this forum . Thanks again and God Bless!

Jackie
