post vaginal hysterectomy bleeding

I had a TVH on May 1st, I have been feeling good, only I have had a few days of bright red bleeding, which the Dr. told me was a warning sign and to call if it happens, well I called last week, when it started and today, and they feel it is o.k. to wait until my follow up appointment on thursday, as long as it is not very heavy bleeding (at this point it is only some spotting, only needing a pantiliner), I was wondering if anyone else out there had this problem after their TVH, and is it fairly normal?

I did not have a TVH, but a TAH and I also had some spotting off-and-on for five weeks post-op. I called my Dr about it at 4 weeks post-op and he told me it was granulation - a common occurence in the healing process. It's very light (quantity) spotting - mine didn't require a pad or pantiliner, it was just occasionally present when I wiped. Sometimes it was red, sometimes brownish.

When I went for my 6-week post-op my Dr treated it with silver nitrate (painless) and I've had no spotting since ( almost 1 week).

Hope this helps.

Hi reenie, while some spotting is normal after this surgery, as your doctor indicated, bright bleeding is a sign that something might be going on.

Did you talk to your doctor personally? If you didn't, I urge you to call back and insist on talking to your doctor. I you did, then I suggest that you monitor this very closely and head for your doctor's office or the ER if the bleeding increases or doesn't relent.

Sending healing s your way. Please keep us posted.
