Having a hard day

Hi all--
I was trying to avoid writing here with my complaints, but am feeling terribly overwhelmed right now. Surgery is only 27 days off (I know, it sounds like a long time), and I'm so stressed out. I haven't been able to sleep and am having a difficult time trying to even make a grocery list! I'm also stressing over the possibility of one of my sons having surgery (he's only 7--has blood in his urine).
It's just a rough day and just feel like crying. I have no dh and my family is 10 hours away (I'm military). I have a call into a doctor here on base and am doing the "hurry up and wait" thing on a call-back--any of you who have ever dealt with the military know what I'm talking about.
I think I just need somewhere to vent where (hopefully) people won't think I'm stupid or just being a baby.
My ovaries are hurting *horribly* today and I'm down to 2 lorcet (which don't seem to work that well, anyway). I'm trying to be frugal with them in case I don't get a call back anytime soon.

Thank you for being there for me...I realize I rambled and whined quite a bit.
I hope you're all doing ok. You're wonderful people and this is a wonderful site.

Having a hard day

s Kellybelle!! Please don't think you're whining! You've got a lot on your plate--single Mom, one son isn't feeling well, YOU don't feel well, and oh BTW, you're having major surgery in a few days. Sounds to me like your feelings are pretty normal.

Sounds like you're dealing a little with the unknown about your son and that is always nervy. But you're doing all you can. Trust me, the "hurry up and wait" syndrome is alive and well even outside the military!!

Hope when the Dr. calls back, he has good news about your son. Is this also your Dr.? Maybe you could go for "2 for 1" and ask about some additional pain meds for you.

Hang in there, and let us know how you're doing!!!

great...

The nurse called back and said the Dr. won't prescribe anything for me without seeing me first (even though I've gotten Xanax from them before for panic attacks, and they *know* I'm in pain--they're the on'es who referred me off base to begin with)
The earliest they can get me in is June 3rd (day before pre-op). I told them to just forget it. I'm so upset right now!

Update

Well, thank goodness for nice people off base. I called my gyn back after the base didn't want to help for 3 weeks, and the wonderful nurse there is calling in 2 prescriptions off base for me for nerves and pain. Bless them!
Again, thank you for giving me an outlet here...

glad to hear it!

So glad to hear that your getting some relief! I had the same problem 3 weeks back! I have been given some oxycodone (percocet) and it helps so very much!! I know what it feels like to have panic attacks, been there done that. Had one this morning, and I am sure I will have another tomorrow morning, because that is when I go in for surgery. Keep your chin up the next few weeks will fly by, I promise you. Keep coming back here, this site is a god send! Good Luck

Kellybelle

Hugs to you Mate. I am so glad that someone finally helped you with the pain aspect. I do hope that the waiting goes by real quick. It is definately the hardest part Hun. I am 8 months post and feel great. It is so good to wake up and know that it is all over. I hope that surgery and recovery is smooth for you. Make sure you have plenty of rest. As for your DS, I hope that his problem is soon sorted out and that he will be fine. Our thoughts and hugs are with you. Hugs Vicki

hearing some familiar stuff

Hi Kiddo,

When I read your worries about being a 'baby' about expressing your worry or needing help with the pain control - I just had to shake my head. Having had Service experience myself, I most assuredly am familiar with the 'hurry up and wait' drama, and absolutely certain of the origin of your stoicism....Doll - if the zillions of men in the service had to face this kind of thing on as regular a basis as we do - believe me sister - they would be making an exception on the 'Baby' clause. You are no baby, but a brave woman, dealing with the military culture, single parenthood, the possibility of a grave illness of your child, and your own impending surgery...and the next time someone tells you to 'suck it in' tell em they're clueless. You don't even need to be nice about it. You are entitled to the medical care you get on base - and even on war convention 'repair and return' terms - getting effective, efficient care for your pain is warranted.

The next time you hear that little internal voice telling you you're being a 'baby' - squelch it right out - it's NOT relevant.

I am sounding rather tough - I know - but I just wanted to offer some empathetic advice for dealing with 'military culture' and military medical care - both oxymorons - I would hasten to add!

You are amazing - Believe in your ability to get through this. We're all here for you any time you need a therapeutic scream!

Yesterday, all of you transitioned my despondency into strength and optimism with your wonderful and generous support. Today, I am returning the favour.
