The Most Obnoxious Question Gets Repeatedly Asked!!!!!!!
When people find out I had a hysterectomy, the first they say is "WOW!!!! Did you NEED to have that done?"
So now, I give the standard reply:
"No, I had nothing else to do that day so I decided, why not rip out major organs?"
************************************
The other thing I get is, "Well, you know, you'll STILL get your period!!!!!!!!".
Oh really.
Argggggggggggggggggh @ ignorant folks.
Thanks for listening my fellow sisters, I feel better already Hugs to all of you!
Love Me

I did not get them but I was repeatedly told. You were done having kids anyway right? You did not want anymore kids did you?
All though I am only 40, I had a tubal 16 yrs ago. This was not even an option to consider. I guess some people just do not know what to say.

Hi Lisa,
You're right, people can be very insensitive at times. I truly beleive that most times they don't mean to, but alas.....sigh.
Try not to let it bother you too much. Sounds like you've got a pretty good return quip there!
Best wishes and s

The Most Obnoxious Question Gets Repeatedly Asked!!!!!!!
Yall are NOT playing fair.. I am only 11 days post op and laughing STILL hurts..LOL
Didn't get the questions, but this one friend of my Mom's did offer sympathy that I was not truly a woman anymore..... can you tell she is a real dingbat?? I just politely looked at her and told her that being a woman has NOTHING to do with with a uterus and ovaries.. She patted me on the hand and said "of course dearie." I just rolled my eyes..

The Most Obnoxious Question Gets Repeatedly Asked!!!!!!!
Hi Orchid, Oh, I've gotten the old "you arent truly a woman anymore."
Lovely huh?
Although, in my case, since I CHOSE to not have kids years ago and had my tubes tied, I was often told that I would never be a REAL woman either.
It's funny, don't people realize they don't need to babble? When anyone I know has a miscarriage, I simply say "I'm so sorry". I DON'T ramble on about things not being meant to be, or there was a reason, or you are young blah blah blah. I hate those kinds of replies.
Less said is more.
PS sorry to make you laugh, I had to swear off Seinfeld reruns for my first two weeks. Now I'm 3.5 weeks and its SO MUCH easier to laugh

The Most Obnoxious Question Gets Repeatedly Asked!!!!!!!
Thank goodness my friends all know me well enough to say "Oh, finally! Congratulations!" Hysterectomies are one of those things like divorce - you almost need to ask "Well, is that a good thing, or a bad thing?"
A universally pretty good reply might be "Oh, I'm sorry you need to have surgery." However a woman feels about having a hyst (tragedy, or chance to live again), it is a shame that any of us *needs* one.
I thought that once I had my hyst, at age 38, I would finally be free of all those busy-bodies trying to tell me I'd wake up one day magically deciding I really do want children after all. (I have never, not for one day, wanted kids.) Of course now I have the ultimate excuse - I *can't* have them. Well that didn't stop one very concerned, sweet, elderly lady from cornering me at a party and insisting that I *would still* want kids someday (just you wait and see...), but not to worry, that I could adopt some kids, like her daughter's friend had done...

Have not receive negative response...
We must ignore those individuals who do not know what to say....I am so thankful that all of the people I've communicated with have been encouraging and understanding.
I will only share detailed info with certain people.
For the most part, all of the females I know who have had this surgery, have told me it was the best thing for them to do.
When it comes to your health, you must do what's best for you.
I know of only one lady who was negative towards me
having the surgery.
I did alot of soul searching... yes feeling bad about my body...
But I believe I did the right thing to stay healthy.
I know I am all woman....

People can be soooo stupid
Hello Sisters!!!!
Yes, I've had those negative experiences too. My niece who tells me 24 hours before surgery that I would no longer have a sex life. I mean what did she think, that they were gonna sew it shut and take out my clitoris? I've had the men who said "Let me get up with you before you get ruined" like I didn't have enough anxiety already.
I don't know if it was a cultural thing but I grew up hearing women tell horror stories about "aint no longer a woman after they take your stuff out" and men saying "man, she done had her stuff took out and it aint no more good" I spent two(2) years of pain and blood going thru the grieving period before I made the decision. I was 34 when I was told that I needed to have a hyst, the thought of not having a "normal" sex life was tantamount to death as far as my little 34 year old mind felt.
I am so glad that I found this website and I am GLAD that I had my hyst. I am ALL WOMAN and even though I"ve had some problems with my recovery, I feel more feminine and more alive than I felt the whole two years that I was grieving. I don't know if they enjoy my sex but I sure do and that is all that is important! Take care.

The Most Obnoxious Question Gets Repeatedly Asked!!!!!!!
I haven't received any negative statements about my hyst yet, those that know me knew it was coming and why, but when I had my tubes tied 15 years ago, I got a lot of people who told me I would regret it and that it was wrong. I would simply reply to these people "I am diabetic, and with each pregnancy, the risk is greater for me or the baby or both to die, and I needed to think about the 2 kids I've got!. " That shut them up pretty effectively.
