Make me feel better:)
I'm so scared for this surgery. I've been waiting for 4 looooong months and I still have just a little over a month to go. Some days, I'm fine and soooo ready to do this and other days, like today, I am scared out of my mind. I just want everything to go smoothly and I just have this overwhelming fear that something will go wrong. I just need some reasurance that I'll be fine.

I can totally understand! I was in the same boat as you. Once I made the decision to have the surgery, I had to wait for four months before the surgery date. Waiting is truly the hardest part of all! One day I would feel like I was making a mistake and shouldn't have the surgery. The next day I was ready to move the date. You are on an emotional roller coaster. You are about to undergo major surgery that has not only physical discomfort, but emotional discomfort as well.
I can honestly that this site helped me. There were other women out there experiencing the same emotions as I was feeling. I spent a lot of time (probably more than I should admit) browsing this web site. The information in the drop down boxes on the home page is invaluable.
All I can tell you is to talk with your doctor about any concerns you have. That is what they are there for. Also talk to friends and/or family who've been in your shoes if possible.
Hang in there. Before you know it you'll be a princess! 8 }

I'm sure you'll be fine. It's a very routine procedure for the doctors. And you've had lots of time to prepare yourself, and you know what to expect. That helps a lot.
My best advice is to think specifically about your recovery -- planning meals & extra pillows & thinking about things to do while you're stark raving bored. I rented tons of videos and did a little jigsaw-puzzling. Did some reading too, and called my friends to whine.
Waiting is incredibly difficult. I was lucky & only had to wait 3 weeks between deciding to do it and getting it done. But those were the longest 3 weeks of my whole life.
You're already doing the hardest thing. When you get scared, just remember all the Hystersisters out here who are thinking of you, and let their good vibes lift you up.

I, too, was scared at first, but I found this site right away and it certainly has helped to calm my fears. Just look at the calendar at all the surgeries that are scheduled for any given day. Knowing that I'm not alone - that there are many other women having the same surgery at the same time as me, makes it less frightening. Plus, the fact that it is such a common surgery, gives me the peace to know that everything will be okay. I will be thinking of you and praying for you. You will soon be on the other side and can write to us still in waiting. Best wishes and hugs to you.

It is normal to be scared about surgery, how often do you have major surgery? Like Melissa said it is very routine for the DR's and nurses, but not for us.
Learning about what to expect is a great way to combat the fear. Trying to maintain a positive attitude about your upcoming surgery will help to keep you calm. Trust in your DR's ability.

You need to know that complications are a possibility and accept that, but then BELIEVE and EXPECT that your surgery and recovery is going to be smooth and uneventful. There may be bumps in the road but I am a very firm believer that if you think positive you are helping yourself.
Keep busy for the next month - making lists of the things you want to get done around the house helps, but if you don't get everything done don't stress about it. Put the important stuff at the top of your list. Do fun things with your kids, maybe visits to a zoo, a park, etc.
Before you know it you will be back here telling the other LIW's that it's true, the waiting is the hardest part!
Best wishes

I'm sure everything will be fine with your castle date. I totally understand what you are going thru. Been there done that!
Everyone around me couldn't wait for me to get it over with I was so all consumed my rollercoaster emotions.
If you have any questions ask them here or keep calling the Dr office with them. If you keep calling the office maybe they'll move up the date to get you out of their hair. Just kidding
Everything will be fine it is major surgery but also a common one
I was drinking a lot of camomile tea (with Dr approval) prior to mine.
Take care and please try to relax

Hey, Pas -
Hang in there, kiddo - you're gonna be fine!!
You've had a rather long time to sit and stew about it. Keep your eye on the goal :-)
Cheers,
