Weight Gain / Natural Hormones

I HAD TO HAVE A HYSTORECTOMY NOV. 24, 2000 DUE TO A SEVERE CASE OF ENDOMETRIOSIS. THEY ENDED UP TAKING EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE OVIRIES.
BEFORE THE HYSTORECTOMY I USED TO WEIGH 128-130 WELL DUE TO MAJOR WEIGHT GAIN NOW AT 151 , 5-4 , MED BUILD.
I BELIEVE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE HORMONE MEDS. I HAVE BREAST TENDERNESS, WEIGHT GAIN, LACK OF ENERGY , AND MOODY AT TIMES.
THE DOCTOR THINKS I AM A NUT BECAUSE I TOLD HER I BELIEVE THE WEIGHT GAIN ECT. CAME FROM THE MEDS. (HORMONE) AND RIGHT NOW I AM ON FEMHRT WHICH IS A TYPE OF BIRTHCONTROL WHICH IS ALSO USED AS A HORMONE.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE NATURAL HORMONE MED. WOULD HELP LOOSE THE WEIGHT AND GAIN ENERGY BACK!!!!
YUP , YOU COULD SAY I AM VAIN AS FAR AS MY FIGURE SINCE THE CHEST INCREASE AND AROUND THE WAIST , BUTT AND THIGHS.
I DO EXERCISE AND WATCH WHAT I DO EAT AND STILL UNABLE TO LOOSE THIS WEIGHT CAN ANYONE HELP ME
OH YA I AM ALSO VERY NEW HERE....

weight gain and HRT

I had TAH/BSO in April of 2001. I weighed 125 pre op just recently I have experienced weight gain and I too believe it is hormone related. I lost 40 pounds about five years ago so a ten pound weight gain is major to me! Anyhow, was taking Estrace for the HRT and recently the GYN switched it to Estratest, hope it helps. I too remain active, walk daily, exercise, drink lots and lots of water and watch what I eat. I eat small portions and all too. It can be very frustrating!

Weight Gain / Natural Hormones

There's a good article on hrt and weight gain here www.hormonejungle.com/weight.php

I am now 3 years post op and am using the compounded Tri-est and progesterone creams. I have not gained weight, in fact I have lost.

Initially post op, those pounds just would not budge. I'd lose 5 and than it would come right back. In the beginning I think that our bodies go thru a big adjustment period.

Now that things have settled down and I've found that place called hormone heaven I have been able to lose some weight. Although it does not come off as easily as it did 10 years ago. It's a pretty slow process.

Weight Gain / Natural Hormones

I am also on compounded hormones. I have not experienced the weight gain problems that I was experiencing with Oral hormones prior to surgery.

Many of us have also found that menopause of any kind makes you more resistant to losing weight. For some, carbohydrates play a role in this. The low-fat high carb diets that used to work for us no longer do. Try a low-carb high protein diet instead. I have been happy with Suzanne Somers program because it is not so drastic. Others like the Sugar Busters or the Zone.

And also, like Kim said, the first few months weight does seem to want to "hang on". It does get better though.....
