NEED answer please!!

Went in for post op last Friday. Doc took me off the combi patch. I had been using it until my emotions got the best of me and she put me on Estrace. At fridays appt. she thought I had been told to stop using patch. I hadn't been. She said to stop. So I took it off (the last one I had). She gave me prescription for progestorone. My pharmacy couldn't fill it because they said my doc needed to talk with them. They called her and she didn't call insurance co. Today she was out of office and still hasn't contacted ins. co. All of this is okay I guess except for the fact that I have not had any progestorone since I took the patch off friday. My question is this: What exactly does progestorone do anyway. I thought estrogen was what controlled the emotions, but if that is true then why have I been fighting off tears and feelings of despair all day? Is it really the progestorone that controls emotions and if not then what is my problem??? I am still taking Estrace. This stuff is all so new to me, having had my surgery April 16. I read up on it but just don't seem to be able to comprehend all that I read. I go back to work on the 28th of May and don't want to go in there a blubbering idiot. Please someone, tell me what medication does what!

Hi sister,

Progesterone is thought to prevent symptoms of estrogen excess, and to replace some of the progesterone our bodies would make naturally. I'm on estrace with progesterone cream, too. I used a patch for a while, and I did have some symptoms of imbalance (tears, mild hot flashes) when I switched, but they went away in a few days. I did have to be really careful about not missing a pill - the patch sort of oozes the medicine into your system, and you don't need to remember to deal with it on a day to day basis, but with the pill, if I missed a dose, I knew it! (This lessened a bit for me over time - I guess as the hormones built up).

On the progesterone cream - is there a compounding pharmacy that accepts your insurance? They might be able to deal with the insurance company faster than your usual pharmacy.

Another possibility is that your emotions are still out of order from the surgery - you are still pretty early in your post-op period and probably just starting to "re-enter" reality. For me, that was the WORST time

I hope you feel better - check in with us soon
