Unusual Twist
Okay, I have a question. I am 2 weeks post op and doing quite well. However my daughter came home from school today talking about two kids in her class just getting over chicken pox, and she is itching like mad. Hopefully it is just her imagination taking over. She had the shot for chicken pox about four years ago, but they said that she can still get a mild case. My question is this: If she gets chicken pox, can this have any effect on my recovery?

Gayle: Good question. I guess if you have never had chicken pox before it IS a concern. Of course, even if you have had the chicken pox before, you can still get a mild case or even shingles. Adult on-set of these particular viruses can be brutal EXTERNALLY. I do not think it would affect your internal recovery. Please check with your doctor, to be sure. This is only my opinion. If you would aslo please let us know what your doctor says, I'd appreciate it. It's always good to learn something new and you never know if this will come up again.
I hope you and your daughter are both OK.
All the best,
Rita

Thanks Rita
I will keep you all posted. I am calling the doctor in the morning. I had chicken pox when I was little, but it just makes me nervous. I will post once I have an answer.
Thanks again!

Check with your doctor. I didn't know about a shot for it, but if you haven't had chicken pox before maybe getting the shot now could help. My DH missed out on getting it as a kid, and was miserable with it a couple of years ago. It really isn't nice to adults. A teenage neighbor had it when I was a kid, and ended up in the hospital with it all down her throat. Maybe your daughter could stay with relatives who've had it before? Better safe than sorry - check with your doc.
D'oh! I just saw your last post. Call the doc anyway, but you shouldn't catch it again. I was fine when my DH had it, 'cause I had it as a kid.

And the doctor says......
Not to worry. I have had chicken pox so I should be okay. Also said that the only concern is herpes zoster virus and that you can get anyways. But still, not to worry. Not a big issue. Thanks for all of the help!
