Post-Op Bowel Problems and HRT ???'s

Hi!
I was wondering how long post-op bowel problems have lasted for others. I'm still having alot of problems but my colon was also cut into during my surgery. If someone could comment on how long they needed to use stool softners after their hysterectomies and how/why hysterectomies affect the bowel so greatly?? I'm wondering what is normal after a hysterectomy vs. what my added colon surgery has contributed to my problems. Also, can someone comment on the differences between Estradiol and Premarin as replacement hormones. I know that I've read that Estradiol is "human identical" but what is Premarin?

Thanks!
Anita

Post-Op Bowel Problems and HRT ???'s

Hi Anita

I can't help where the HRT is concerned, since I kept both my ovaries and they are working, but I can suggest that you post on The Hormone Jungle message board where you'll be most likely to find answers to these questions.

Regarding the bowel issues, I too had problems with regularity for quite some time after my hyst. Then again, it's always been a problem for me and I still have to ensure that I add fiber to my diet in order to avoid constipation. I'm sure that the colon surgery didn't help matters much in this area.

The best person to answer these questions is your doctor: only he/she knows the extent of the colon surgery and if what you are experiencing is normal for you and how long you can expect it to continue.

Sending healing s your way. Please let us know what the doctor says.
