IBS and anxiety attacks help!

it has been a little over a year since I had my surgery and I have developed irriatable bowel syndrom and am having terrible anxiety attacks. I have had anxiety attacks before but they seem to have worsened since my surgery. I was wondering if anyone else has expierenced these problems. any help would be appreciated.

Hi Helen...

Sorry you've developed IBS. I had it prior to my tah and it really has gotten a lot more intense since the surgery. I understand anxiety attacks and ibs go hand in hand sometimes. I've been lucky to never have had an anxiety attack. If I were you, I'd visit my doctor and tell him/her what's going on. There are medications out there that could help with both of your problems!
Good luck!

IBS and anxiety attacks help!

Helen,
I'm in the IBS club too and mine has also gotten worse since the surgery. There are some meds that are available that have helped some women with symptoms. Has your doctor suggested anything to help? Also you may want to keep a food diary and see if certain foods are setting off attacks. I've found this very useful in trying to control my IBS.

I've not experienced the anxiety, but that can certainly contribute to the IBS. Did you have ovaries removed? If so are you taking anything for hormone replacement? Anxiety can be a sign of a hormonal imbalance.

Sending some s

IBS and anxiety attacks help!

Dear Helen and all, I too have suffered for many years with panic attacks but ,touch wood, this is the only positive outcome I think from my hysterectomy is I havent had many anxiety attacks since surgery!!!! I wonder if it is hormones that is helping but something is and I havent been more happier in a long time!!! I have just started driving again as I always seen to have an anxiety attack when driving within a mile from home, even going out shopping was hard... So somethings going on with hysterectomies ,they can effect anxieties and again I wonder if it is your hormones .Im have my overies still so I am not on any hormones eventhough my testoserone is down ,have you had your checked?? I too suffer with IBS but only rarely ,when stress....!!!!!! Takecare goodluck love debbiepxxx

IBS and anxiety attacks help!

Helen: 's

I have had IBS for years & have noticed its been much worse since my hyst. last sept. I have yet to find anything that really helps- i tried a med (cant remember the name- ) but couldnt tolerate it - it made me miserable.
And PossumHere: If i were you i would definitely look into a second opinion before having surgery to diagnose IBS. As far as i know, there is no clear-cut way to diagnose IBS. It seems that when you have GI problems they cant figure out they tend to just say, well, you must have IBS. You said you felt he was way off base. Listen to your instincts- they are usually right.

's to all

IBS and anxiety attacks help!

Thanks Susan
I have lower abdo pains across the area where I had the last two c-sections, TAH and then my BSO.
I have abnormal Liver Function Tests from having Granulomas on my liver diagnised in 1985.
My LFT haave elevated over the past few months so something is up with it again. I have NO Galbladder.

My bowel motions are fine and regular.
I eat a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables and keep to low fat.

So I feel I have more adhesions which have attached onto the bladder and of course to the bowel although no problem with bowel motions etc as per the normal reading of IBS.

The Surgeon I believe has NO CLUE and feels a check for IBS is way off base and a stab in the dark.

He wasnt interested in the abdo pain, or the elevated LFT's.

So I am back to square one again and will go and see the GP for his advice.

I have had far to may procedures in my life and do not believe what is happening inside my body relates to IBS. One would think I would have a clue if after 27 medical procedures I'd have some idea whats wrong.

Actually In fact I havent been wrong for a very long time when something is wrong when they finally do check for what I feel it is they are shocked I KNEW......

Just wanted to say thanks

Donna
