My mom had a hyster about 5 years ago.

Hello, just thought I'd try this. I'm in Houston, Texas and my mom had a total Hyster. She still can't find a hormone that will work with her body very well she is hot flashing and everything hurts and/ or she is bloated was out there. These doctors don't get how tiring it is to always fell bad. They just say oh well, lets just try another pill. I can't belive they can't do some kind of blood work or test to see what pill will match a womens chemistry better. She has tried the natural stuff and still does not work. Right now she is taking the hormone every other day or half a dose a day ....I'm not sure. And when she feels like she is going to hot flash or any of the numerous symtoms occure..she takes Midal PMS and it seems to help her. But her stomoch is so uncomfortable for her. She tells me it don't even feel like her stomoch...like not alot of feeling. When she gets mad and just stop taking the pills her stomoch goes back to normal but then she starts to hot flash real bad! Is anyone out there going threw the same thing? She is in her mid 50's and has always taken care of herself.

Hi, I am not sure what all your mother has tried. There are blood tests and saliva tests that are used to measure hormone levels. Sounds like her bloating maybe helped with progesterone. If you go to www.hormonejungle.com there are lots of good articles on the pull down menu. You can see what the symptoms mean in one article and there is one to explain all the different HRT options. Also at the top of this page is an FYI that has helpful hormone links that contains helpful information. I hope your mother finds something soon to make her feel better.

Do you know what all your mother has tried? It may help us to know more about the hormones she has tried and the method of delivery and how long she was on each and the symptoms she has experienced.

JMHO I don't think taking her pill every other day is going to help. Do you know what she's currently using?

As Sheri pointed out, the pull down menus at www.hormonejungle.com offer a wealth of information about hormones. Perhaps you could print them out and let your mother read them. Maybe your mother could take some of them in when she visits her doctor.

I'm sending some s for your mom!

I was just thinking that perhaps a transdermal method of derlivery for her hormones might be better for her tummy and might she might be able to get balanced on it. Some women do not do well on oral hormones and I myself had some stomach and gallbladder troubles from the oral.
There are a few options for the transdermal method. Either one of the patches, estrace, climara, vivelle or vivelle dot.. There are also compounded hormones. These are FDA approved human biologically identical hormones that are prepared by a compounding pharmacist specifically for you. A script is required as they are real hormones.. If you go to this link www.iacprx.org you will be able to find the pharmacy locator for compounding pharmacists in your area. It might be a good idea for your mom to have a consult with a compounding pharmacist to see what would be best for her.
There is also a link to the left of this post for College Pharmacy. They are an online pharmcay that makes compounded hormones. They have a questionare that you fill out and it gives them an idea of what your mother may be needing.
As Sheri said, your mom probably needs to have some tests run to see where her levels are. I'm assuming probably pretty low since she takes her hrt sporadically. It really is important that she takes her hrt everyday so that she doesnt get the highs and lows from levels raising and dropping. These fluctuations themselves can cause the hot flashes.
Sheri also brought up a good point about progesterone. It helps me to be able to tolerate my estrogen. Without it I get bloated and nauseated. It also helps me to sleep. Progesterone balances the estrogen for many of us.. On the other hand, some women cant take it. It is available by prescription or OTC. Estrogen is not. There is not any estrogen available OTC. There are phytoestrogens that you can get at health food stores and such but these are not REAL estrogens.
Do look at the link Sheri gave you. In the pulldown menu there is a wealth of info... S to you and your mom. Let us know if we can help further.
