abdominal pain/gas/bowels
Hi, I'm new to the site. I am now 11 days post TAH/BSO due to severe endometriosis. I've felt like my recovery to this point has been going relatively well. I have a question, though. Is it normal to have pain in the mid/lower abdomen when your bladder is full? I'm also having waves of severe bowel/gas cramps and then when I do go, it hurts like heck! Is this something I should call my doctor about?

Hi and welcome to Hyster Sisters
You've just had major abdominal surgery and some discomfort and pain is not only normal but expected at this very early stage of recovery. Our bladder and bowels are very close to the operation site and are disturbed by surgery. This is further aggravated by all the meds and the anesthesia administered during and after surgery.
Of course, if you're concerned, you should talk to your doctor about your symptoms. Where gas is concerned, walking and drinking plenty of water will help move things along. It's also a good idea to avoid foods and drinks that are gas inducing. I used Gas-X and that helped a lot.
Sending Healing s your way.

Hi
Hello justbeachy...my surgery was on the 11th too...I can totally relate to how you are feeling. I just talked to my doctor about the exact thing today. He told me to take GasX or related product 4 to 5 times a day for 4 days. I'm going to try it. And he told me that the many adhesions and cysts were on or near the rectum /colon area which is causing the pain when I have a bowel movement and when I pee. I just wish I could get rid of this bloated/pressure belly. I feels terrible!!! I'm hoping and praying we will both feel better really soon!! Call your doctor and see what they say and take care now. s to you. Braswell

Yep, I've experienced that too, and my surgery was 2 weeks before yours. I still have pain (it's slight but noticable) when my bladder is full (or my bowels are full), and oftentimes it hurts when I go to the bathroom. (I'm still afraid to push too hard, but sometimes ya just gotta go!) This past weekend has been particularly uncomfortable, and I still have some lingering pain on my left side (around the incision area, but internal.) I think it's normal, but I agree that you should check with your doctor, especially if the pain is bad.
