Wide Awake at 2 AM - long, long story

Wow - can things get any more crazy? I'm soooo happy to be getting so close to my castle date, and I don't feel especially stressed, but clearly I'm not sleeping I also don't feel much like eating - fine with me, maybe I can stay that way for 30 more pounds!! LOL!

But anyway, things really are crazy around here. Early last week I started in with a major asthma attack and then on Thursday, an ex of a gal at work went on a rampage and started shooting at her Mom's house. He had threatened her already so we've had extra security at work for about 6 weeks - then Thursday when he went off, they locked us down - I was the only Manager in at the time in my section and had to go around and 'calm' everyone down - who me? calm? I was scheduled to fly out that afternoon and ended up being able to get out with a sheriff watching me the whole way to my car. Then the plane had problems and tried to take off 3 different times but had to keep aborting and going back to fix the problem. We were trapped on it for 3 hours before we finally left - and I'm not a good flyer anyway - but we made it. I was supposed to be teaching a class on Friday, and was all ready. I went down to the hotel exercise room early to work out - got most of the way through my regular workout and got suddenly, decidedly ill! Fever, chills, nausea, etc. Of course, the final Auntie Flo visit had started the day before so I had all of that pain going on too. I ended up being so sick that I couldn't teach the class, my blessed partner did the whole thing while I layed down on the floor in the back. Finally, we managed to get me back to the airport and on an early flight home. I spent most of the weekend recovering - but then ran into an OB/GYN friend on Sunday who put all kinds of doubts in my head about my Dr (who I really like) and wanted me to see a different Dr. ARGHHH!

My DH's family is the best, my MIL is wonderful and supportive and I've been crying on her shoulder all along - but now she is really stressed. Her twin sons (just 5 yrs younger than me) are both struggling financially and she worries a lot about them. One just moved back to Utah from Boston with his family on Friday, and while they are working to get all moved, she is helping out with their 4 little ones. She loves it, but it is hard. Then, all of a sudden, on Monday, the other twin shows up at her door after getting kicked out and hitch hiking and bussing to her place. He's freaked out and crying and his wife seems to have gone overboard. She doesn't like our family - says we are insincere and shallow. WOW!! I'm so amazed, because like I said, his family is wonderful - they are all I have and I feel like they are a miracle in my life.

I went to see the new Dr yesterday and didn't really like him, plus it would have moved my surgery way back - so I'm sticking with my current Dr and plan. Then, after that appt, I had a Dentist appt for a broken tooth which ended up being a 2.5 hour root canal and temp crown.

I fly out again today to orient a new employee - and I'm really lucky to have some dear friends in Seattle who are going to join me for a pals lunch on Friday - I just really feel like I want to spend time with them. Then it's back home for final preparations.

Thank goodness for my DH and DD. He is an angel on earth with big strong, warm arms for me all the time and she has suddenly blossomed into this fabulously generous young woman. Yesterday, when I got home from all the appts and work, she had vacuumed, mopped, and carpet cleaned the whole house - plus scrubbed the kitchen!! How can I be so lucky!?! Sunday, some more friends are coming over for a cookout, and then Monday it's off to the castle!

Thanks to all of you. You have no idea how well you've gotten me through these 2 months of waiting and preparing. I've used your questions and answers to get ready - and I'm there! Now if the rest of the world would just slow down a little . . .

s to you all

Wide Awake at 2 AM - long, long story

Dear Elaine,

Here are some 's for you.

No wonder you were awake at 2 AM. What a week!!

I think your pals lunch and your Sunday cookout sound like just the thing to counter all of the crazy, scary things that have been happening in your life this past week.

Your job sounds as if it would be stressful enough without all the added stress of getting ready for surgery. I'll be hoping and praying that the rest of this week calms down for you, and for your MIL and your BIL's.

Your DH and DD sound as if they are ready to pamper the new when you get home, and that's great!!

(((hugs)))

Yikes! What a week! I hope it calms down for you now.

About that temp crown... mention it to the anesthesiologist. They will probably ask you, in pre-op, but bring it up, just in case. They usually want to know about anything that could possibly come loose (bridgework, dentures, temp crowns...) so they can be on the lookout when they intubate you (assuming you have general anesthesia).

Give your DH and DD a few extra-big hugs, and enjoy your cookout!

You're remarkable and you still seem to have a sense of humor!
This major surgery should be a walk-in-the-park for you!

's to you and your loving family.
