How do I prepare for surgery ?

Hello everyone !!
I love this site, what a great idea.
I have about 3 weeks until surgery (7/2/02)
Is there anything I can be doing right now to make my suregery and recovery easier? Should I be on a special diet? I have never had surgery before, I appreciate all advise I can get.
I am 35 years old and a big baby when it comes to pain.

How do I prepare for surgery ?

Hi, Kitty!

I'm having surgery the day before you so we will be recovering together! Can't offer you much advice right now though. One thing I did for myself was buy a relaxation CD that I can use before the surgery. I'm already finding myself going through some wide emotional swings between being happy, relieved that I won't have the cancer risk anymore, nervous & depressed. I'm hoping this CD will help calm me when I'm nervous & depressed.

How do I prepare for surgery ?

I'd like to know what to do also. I think I am going into this with my eyes closed. I recovered so quickly from my C-section 15 years ago, I guess I just figured this would be about the same...only now I am 50 and not 35!

I will only have my 15 year old son to help around the house when I get home, and I had planned to get back to work soon, as I don't have any sick leave. I type at home. I don't think I will be able to work long stretches at a time.

What do I need for the hospital stay? Is the pain going to be unbearable? I had morphine after the section and really felt great considering.

How do I prepare for surgery ?

Welcome sisters,
Go back to the Forums page and stroll down to the Pull-Down menu. Read all you can. Then come back to Pre Op messages and read the first 4 messages. Look up your surgery or concerns with the purple search buttons to get past conversations of sisters. This is a large site and fun to use.

Hi there ladies, Maralyn is right. There is a ton of info here for you to read. Make a cup of tea and settle in. And of course ask any questions you need too.
