cervix/vagina/discharge question?

I'm due to have my hysterectomy sometime in July (scheduling is a nightmare but that's another story). My doctor already told me he will remove my cervix as well as uterus + fibroids. My question is, what will he do with the top of the vagina after removing the cervix? Stitch it up? And if so, where does the discharge (dissolving stitches, etc) many ladies talk about come from? How can it get out if the opening to the exit is, shall we say, sealed shut?

Sorry to be gross, but I've been wondering for a while. . .

cervix/vagina/discharge question?

If your cervix is removed, your doctor will sew shut the top of your vagina. This is referred to as a "vaginal cuff."

The discharge some women experience is caused by stitches dissolving. The stitches in the vaginal cuff also dissolve, and can result in a discharge.

I never had a discharge of any kind, and never saw my dissolved stitches, either. Some women do, and some don't.

Hope this helps.

You just never know...

My doctor explained to me how he will stitch up the top of the vagina,.. it just becomes a dead end similar to how your cervix is, and it's not to supposed to be any different for DH, unless he was used to bumping into it due to any prolapse or whatever... (in which case it would all be better afterwards) which I don't have so it shouldn't be any different. Anyway, my doc said I will be sewed up and sealed up so well that I can go in the tub within a couple of days, by the time I'm home from the castle, and he doesn't forsee any problems with the discharge, etc. although it could still happen,.. you just never know, but I'm hoping for not,.. ew, yucky, if it does, LOL
