Hi Everyone!

My weight has been holding pretty much the same for a while. One week down 2 lbs, the next up 1lb...and so on. Today I showed a 4 lb loss! That's for a month, but I'm happy with it. I designed my diet for 1 lb a week with the DietPower program. My reports are really good also. The 3 mo report shows 28% of calories from fat and I like that. I'm trying to learn about a lot of the other nutrients......I pay a lot of attention to Trish's information.

They opened my pool yesterday and it was pretty bad. A deep green, almost black. I've been spending the better part of the last two days backwashing and brushing...lots of exercise there! My 10yo grandson called and asked to stay over tonight. He's kind of a "get it done" type, so he got rid of an old dog house that was starting to rot by taking off the top and then the 2 of us got it to my garage to be hauled away by the trash guys. His father has been promising to do it for weeks. Then we went to Bennys and I was able to get a 9 ft patio umbrella on sale and the two of us got it home and set it up. I can't believe that I'm old enough to have a grandson who can do the "guy things" so well. I really love that kid!

I'm really getting into the soy foods. The Boca burger with Kraft 2% cheese and Smart Food bacon works for me. I never would have believed it. I also tried the Riblets made by the people who make Gardenburgers and they were very good. A bit expensive, but worth it to me when I get an urge for ribs.

The problem with starting the thread is that I can't refer to all your posts. I do read them all, tho and am glad for those who show a loss and have my fingers crossed for those who a struggling.

Now I'm missing Nita, Rita and Ann. Where are you guys?

Hope everyone has a nice and OP weekend!

I'm so glad you have such a great helper, EM!! I bet he likes feeling needed too.

for that 4 pound loss!

I'm really glad if you find that anything I find among my reading helps. The hard part is putting it all together, but DietPower sure helps with that. I feel really blessed that you introduced me to it, EM (and Dawn gave me the kick in the pants to use it )

Even so, it turned out to be a hectic week and so I fell off the wagon. I put this as a lower priority and it just can't be, you know? Not when one is morbidly obese. I've dodged the bullet and have almost no health consequences, but it's just a matter of time before I do. How can something have higher priority than my life?

I'm a little suspicious that the other thing that caused me to let go of the wagon was that I realized that I now have the tool that can help me succeed at this and I think maybe I panicked at the thought of success.

That's why I'm so proud of you, Dany, for losing the weight and keeping it off.

Good Morning Ladies! Wouldn't you know it, a week of blistering weather and today I've planned a pool party and what is the weather??? CLOUDY and a slight breeze. SHEESH! Oh well it will still be fun!

Yesterday proved to be not too bad of a day. I ended up walking all around town for 3 hours. Would have been longer but I stopped at CNN center and had to catch some of talk back live. I think with being OP through my mid day meals, and the additional activity I fared pretty well for the entire day. Tried a new micro brewery for dinner which had a menu that looked pretty frou-frou but when ya stripped away the fancy names, it was less intimidating. Ended up finding a FABULOUS place to dine! I had some spicy pasta, shrimp, scallop, spinach combination. Dreamy.

Today has started OP, but I'm guessing will go downhill from here on out. We're having grilled pizzas, (I tell you, MEN grill ANYTHING!), sodas n beer and whatever else shows up.

Em: One of these days I am going to try these soy products you have mentioned. I know soy is better for me, but good quality and variety are still tough to find in my local markets. I know I prefer soy milk over regular. Now boy does it sound like you got a ton done yesterday! What a helper you have!
I think that's the thing with weightloss, it doesn't really matter week to week or day to day, it's over longer periods of time that matter. 4lbs in a month is great! Specially since your goal was 1lb a week. Congrats on seeing your goals through!

Trish: I think you have said something very very wise in your post.
"I'm a little suspicious that the other thing that caused me to let go of the wagon was that I realized that I now have the tool that can help me succeed at this and I think maybe I panicked at the thought of success. "
I think if most of us are honest we initially see that hey we CAN do this, lose weight, get healthier, and then OMG... we CAN DO THIS and panic sets in, and we undermine our own efforts. I know I certainly do. When I have success for extended weeks I get a little cocky and convince myself a little more of this here n there won't matter, and then the scale starts going back the other way. All this to say, believe in yourself and believe that you really do deserve success .... because you do!

Dawn: "So when are you going to exercise today?" Actually what I wonder is if your hubby and son try to "buy" back stuff you've put out for sale! Good luck sneaking the stuff out of the house!

Tamara: Hang in there, it does take a while to get used to a new weightloss regime, and to discipline yourself to keep track of everytyhing. A .4 gain however is not bad at all. My mind only processes half pound increments.

Sad to say I only remember the Gap Band name, not the music. Though I think I can picture a few album covers in my head. ALbums ... oy vey did I just date myself! That is such a sweet story. For my sweetie and I it's the Eagles. Our first date was an Eagles concert. Hope you have a great time at the festival! DOn't stress out too much about your choices, on this one I say Fun comes First!

Shirley: WOW. Hopefully now with the results back you and your doctor will be able to work out what is the best combination for your body. It's important when you take herbal remedies (Cohosh) that week keep our doctors in the loop. Thank you for posting your results so we may all gain knowledge from your experiences. Hope you're feeling more like yourself soon!!

Dany: Shopping Therapy is a necessary part of life. I can't wait for the day I buy a "little black dress." It will be little too! The best part is I know I'll need some killer cute shoes to go with it!

Ah well, time to go get going. We have appointments at the hair stylists. Hope you all have the BEST day ever!!

Hey ladies,

I did pretty good last night at the social. I had one scoop of vanella with a brownie. It was yummy! I am back on track again today. You know I thought eating ice cream would make me get off track for good but hey I have no desire for it today. I feel great knowing I can enjoy a treat without ruining my plan. I am finally reaching my goal of this being a life style change and not a diet.

BSQ have fun tonight and enjoy the pizzas.

Dany sounds like you are still making wise decisions. Wow a size 8 that is awesome.

Tracie I hope all is well with you. If the door closes on your job a new one will open. God bless!

Hey Dawn I hope work went well last night. Have a good op day and exercise.

EM send me your grandson He is special.

I just downloaded a trial version of Diet Power and programmed in a 1 lb. a week weight loss. That gives me 1410 calories a day, which seems like enough and then with exercise, something should happen. I like that it includes an exercise log with a food diary. I'm a firm believer in keeping a food diary. When I don't keep track of what I eat, I tend to eat too much.

I'm so glad I found this thread. It seems like a good program.

EWM... I have DP and it's working great for me. When you put in exercise it will add the number of calories it thinks you burned back into your daily calorie allowance. It took a couple of weeks or so for it to "figure me out" and the calorie allowance kept changing. If you don't weigh in every day and show a loss when it thinks you should, it will take away calories from your budget. On the other side of that coin, if you show a greater loss than it expected, it adds calories. I think it's great.....it's just between me and the program, and there's no incentive to NOT note everything. I use my DS's scale and try to weigh at least once a week.

Today is going well for me foodwise. We finally got a sunny day, so I've enjoyed some outside work as well. Even doing good with my water!!

Hi everyone,

I expected to feel great today, but I don't think that Detrol agrees with me. I've had a bad headache, been queasy, etc--all of which match the side effects on the sheet. I tried Detrol several years ago and I remember not feeling great then and this is a higher dose (I still had that original prescription). I don't think I'll take any more. The urologist wants to do the scope thing anyway (oh joy), so I'll see what happens with that. Besides I got up twice as much to go to the bathroom last night. Despite feeling off, I had a lunch date with one of my best friends at a posh restaurant for her birthday so I got gussied up and went. That made me feel better. We had a great lunch. We each had a barbecue (upscale of course) and split a dessert (something called chocolate pave, which really defies description, it tastes so divine), plus I had one drink. Afterwards, we went to an art festival in the park, so we walked some of it off. I'm having a light supper and no snacks or anything, so I think I'll be okay. Okay with water and did my yoga this morning.

BSQ--Actually my doctor knew about the black cohosh, he told me I could take it because he didn't want to take everything away from me. Of course after he got the results he wondered if it affected the estrogen some. Trish said she didn't think it would or at least not very much. My doctor also gave me information on a urinalysis that evaluates all your vitamins and supplements and comes up with a proper dosage for you. I think I'm going to do that. I have followed guidance on hystersisters for that, but now that I know the other stuff was so far off, I may not need all the stuff I've been taking.

Michelle--Glad you enjoyed the social and did so well!

Em--Your grandson sounds super. It's fun to have that energy of youth keeping you going.

Sue--I love flylady too. Somehow I had stopped getting her emails. I got a message saying that I had been unsubscribed because the emails to me were being bumped back to them. Anyway I resubscribed today and am enjoying them again.

Dany--A size 8--that is so wonderful!

For some reason, I can't scroll down and see everyone's posts, only a few. Oh well, I don't want to risk losing this post so I'll catch up with the rest of you later.

EM, I haven't bought the program yet, but I love it so far. One thing I've noticed is that 1410 calories goes pretty quickly. I have 40 calories left for the day!!

Thanks for all the input.

Well, as I knew it would be, today was (almost) totally off-program. Not as bad as planned because DH and I decided to forgo our dinner plans: they were to go on a terrace and enjoy the weather, but the weather's awful.... cloudy/rainy and kind of cool.

Still, since I'm pretty stressed out and burned out over work issues, I still needed to pamper myself. So, even though I walked, I enjoyed a caramel chillatte at Second Cup's (caramel is fast become my new favorite flavor ) then I walked some more and did the rest of my shopping.

Now, the rest of the Off-Program part: I bought a nice bottle of Tawny Port and am enjoying it. I've already had a glass and am starting to unwind... finally!!!

Em: congrats on the 4 lbs. I'm so proud of you!!!

Trish: hey, sweetie, I know what you mean since I was there last month when I was sooooo afraid of maintenance I almost deliberately jeopardized my weight-loss I'm back on-program and in control (even today is both planned and in control, even though off program). You'll get back on it and you will make it a priority

Shirley: I'm so sorry the meds are having such a bad effect. If it doesn't improve, please, do call the doctor. Meds are supposed to help you, not make you sick.

Michelle: congrats for getting right back on track. Brownies with vanilla ice creams are my favorite, too. I wonder: do they make brownies in caramel flavor????

BSQ: sounds like you're doing real good and that little black dress (and I do mean little) might be just around the corner.

Well... back to enjoying my port and relaxing. Hope you are all having a BEST week-end.
