What is my body doing!

I'm new to this! please forgive me if I ramble...etc..
About 3 weeks ago, I had period like cramps start about 5 days after my period had just ended. They steadly got worse over the next 3 days until I couldn't take it anymore and called my Doctor. (I never had any bleeding) She told me to take Aleves--and they really worked. The next day I could feel my cervix very low in my vagina and a bulge on the back wall--really scared me! If I stopped the 2 aleves every 4 hours I was miserable. Long story short--I suspected a prolapsed uterus and 8 days after this started, my Gyn confirmed it and said I had a rectocele. She instantly recommended a hysterectomy. I was so shocked! In the 2 weeks since, I've slowly started feeling better. My cervix is still lower than normal, but not nearly as low as it was. The rectocele is about the same, but not really that bad. I'm so unsure what to do now! Is this the usual pattern for a uterine prolapse? My period just started and seems the same as always. I don't have any problems having sex. I'm just wondering if this is some kind of lull before the storm!
I had three very large babies and have been overweight all my 40 years. The irony is I just lost 55 lbs. and the Doctor says the prolaspe is probably a result--as in I had bulk internally holding things up!
I feel so blessed to have found this site--and all of you.

I haven't the slightest idea what you should do, but at least you have the luxury of time. Don't be in a rush to decide. Get a second (and even a third) opinion.

Bummer about the weight loss contributing to your problem! I lost about 15 lbs recently, and suddenly had hip pain when I was sleeping, 'cause my "padding" was gone. Now I have to sleep with a small pillow between my knees instead of my "natural" support. Still, probably best all around if we shed the pounds...

Anyway, you can search for "prolapse". Try "fallen" too. (Use the little "Search" button, upper-right part of the screen.)

Don't rush or feel pushed into anything - keep reading and asking questions.

p.s. I agree, Aleve is great stuff. I don't know how, but it really reduced my flow, back when I had a flow...

Hi mistysky

I didn't have any prolsapse issues, but I'm sure there will be others along soon who can help you out.

Get as many opinions as you need to help you make a decision. Check out Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives also:

Best wishes with your search.

What is my body doing!

Hi mistysky,

I had my hyst due to prolapses of the uterus, bowel and bladder. But, before my doctor suggested surgery, we discussed my alternatives. In my case, since I was going into menopause anyway, we decided on the hyst.

Here's a link to a site that explains more about prolapses:

http://pages.prodigy.com/prolapse.html/

I would definitely suggest that you obtain a second or even third opinion to be sure that you really do need this surgery. If you do, then please be sure to read everything you can on this site and come back and ask more questions.

Please let us know what you decide.
