A shot of Estrogen?

I will be going to the castle to have TAH-BSO on 6/25 and I am alittle worried about the menapausal sysmptoms and HRT. My doc said they will give me a huge shot of estrogen on the operating table after the surgery that should last me about a month. Then I will start oral once I come in to dr's office for post op visit.

Is this what most people get? I haven't read anything about it. Just oral estrogen. And going through the hot flashes and all.

I'm afraid of this because I don't know if this is going to cause me to be a worse #$%^@# than I already have been.

thanks
Nance

A shot of Estrogen?

I had a TAH/BSO on 4/12/02 and my DR did not give me anything after surgery. (pain meds of course but that was it) He told me he wanted to wait to see if any of the symptoms (hot flashes, etc.) started before starting me on hormones. I started the hot flashes about 3 weeks ago and will be starting an Estrogen patch next week. (I've been trying to ride them out but they are uncomfortable) I guess each DR has different ideas when it comes to HRT. If your concerned about it you should discuss it with you DR before the surgery. Good luck with the surgery it's really not so bad!!!!

A shot of Estrogen?

Nance,
I got the shot of estrogen in the operating room and I am glad I did. I felt fabulous for the first 6 weeks, before having to start messing with HRT. I felt it was a godsend during recovery time. I actually used the shots as HRT for a year.
Best wishes with your upcoming surgery

A shot of Estrogen?

Nance

My doc placed a patch on me in OR and I have used those since 6 wks ago. I woke up after surgery with sweating, and had night sweats first 1 and headaches, but then all went away once the estrogen got in my system. I am currently contemplating changing under dr's recomendations.

I have heard of the injections and my friend swears by them for over a year now.

Good luck!

Kaymac
