Questions; prolapse and healing

I'd love to read comments from other woman who have/had uterine prolapse and rectocele. I notice I have the worse time with it as soon as my period ends every month. My monthly bleeding stops, but then the cramps and back ache begin--(no bleeding)-lasting for about a week. For some reason during this time, my cervix is at it's lowest. Seems a little odd that it happens immediately after my period--the week before my period starts is usually the best--no pain,--just feel great!
I'm hoping to put surgery off until the Fall-- My prolapse is not severe, but I am a little concerned that by waiting 3 or 4 months I may make the whole surgery and healing more difficult. Sure not looking forward to the healing process-- I know I've read somewhere that there are vitamins etc.. you can start taking well before surgery to help you heal better and faster--does that sound familiar to anyone?
Thank you for all your comments, suggestions and help. I read the forums everyday-what a Godsend!

Questions; prolapse and healing

Hi. I had a prolapse, rectocele and cystocele. My prolapse was severe - my cervix was protruding from my body all the time, between about 1/4" and about 3/4" at times. Mine also varied according to the time of the month. Apparently I had had a less severe prolapse for a long time, but when my hormone balance started changing at the beginning of menopause the ligaments loosened much more and everything dropped hard and fast. I didn't have a choice and had to have the surgery right away. I had a TVH/BSO/A&P repair and bladder suspension in February. Everyone is different, so I don't know how long you might be able to go without having the surgery. My mom has had a prolapse which is not that severe for about 20 years now and has chosen not to do anything about it (she's 67) and is OK with living with it. Maybe your DR can give you some insight into what she's seen with other patients in your situation?

As far as the vitamins go, I have always taken lots of them and been extremely healthy. However, I was told to stop taking all of them for 2 weeks prior to the surgery (several of the ones I was taking interfere with blood clotting) and for a month afterwards. Please check with your DR on this too. They all have their opinions about using vitamins and herbs before and after the surgery.

Good luck with your surgery!

prolapsed uterus.cytocele

Just coming home from the castle with 2 days post op from my cytsocele and prolapsed uterus. I also had high grade displaysia on my last pap. I recommend not waiting. The backaches are horrible and definitley worth being rid of. Surgery is alot scarier whrn you dont know than afterwards. Please go for it and realize how much better you will feel.
