Anyone ever had a bone scan done?

Hi everyone- got a question. For those of you that have had a bone scan done- what was it like? Do they put you in one of those "tunnell thingys" like an MRI? If so then i am going to ask for something to help me with anxiety- i just dont like those "tunnells" Plus, i read that it takes usually an hour to finish the test
I am getting it done on Friday afternoon. I have been having major foot pain in my right foot & nothing showed up on a regular x-ray. Dr. ordered me "out of commission" from work untill we see the results of the test.
Thanks ladies !

Anyone ever had a bone scan done?

Susan,
I just had one done a few weeks ago when I went to the ob-gyn. It was kind of like getting an xray. You lay on the table and there's this big thingy above you and they position you in a certain way while they sit at the computer. I wasn't put into a tunnel, it wasn't like a catscan or an MRI. It was really simple and quite painless.

Anyone ever had a bone scan done?

Totally painless...like Kim said. No, they dont put you in a tunnel so you wont need anything for anxiety. Good luck and let us know how the results turn out.

bone scan

Be glad it is not your elbow. I had to lay in an ackward postion for over an hour and had mussle- spasms for 3 days afterward!!!
The test is not bad, just get confortable cause they DO NOT let you move once you are in there.

Anyone ever had a bone scan done?

Thanks girls ! I guess it will be a piece of cake !
I guess they inject some kind of radioactive stuff in your vein before the test. I was joking to my teenage DS that i will come home glowing
Thanks for all the info-

Anyone ever had a bone scan done?

Susan,
Whoops Just realized what I had done was a bone *density* test. May not be the same as a bone scan. Sorry.

Good luck with the test.

All too familiar!

Susan, my DS has had numerous (too many to count!) bone scans due to his cancer. They really are like a long x-ray, not at all like a tube. Yes, you will be radioactive! Have you asked your Dr. for emla cream? I put it on my DS's port when he got chemo and on any veins that had to be poked. If you apply it with tegaderm tape for about two hours prior to being injected, you won't feel it, it numbs the area, works REALLY well. I used to put it in the tops of both of his hands and inside of both arms so they could use any vein that was easiest for them. Just a thought to make things easier...let us know how it goes....Love to you, Tickles

Anyone ever had a bone scan done?

Susan,
I had a bone scan done a couple of yrs ago. I went in at 11 and they injected me with this dye and told me to come back in like 3-4 hrs. It was simple and there was no tunnel just a huge scanner type thing on top that went over my body. I cant remember how long it took tho. Good Luck and I hope this test will be able to show your Dr what is going on......

Anyone ever had a bone scan done?

Hi ladies !
Well, i just got back from the bone scan test. Here is what the tech said: he said that there is "increased activity in the top bones of my foot , he showed me on the monitor the white spot that was there that shouldnt be there. So it is possible that i broke a couple bones in my foot (i dropped something on it a few months ago). I am just praying that it isnt a tumor or something like that. I guess i always tend to think the worse.......
Anyway, my dr. will have the results by Wed. I can only imagine what they will have to do to my foot if i broke it, seeing I have been walking around on it all this time. I guess i should stop thinking about it till I see the ortho. dr.
Thanks ladies for the support & for being there to listen to me complain - 's

I will be keeping you in my ers. I hope it's nothing serious. I tore some ligaments in my foot once stepping off of a 1" porch I just had to wear an aircast for 6 weeks. Hopefully, it's something simple to fix.
