How many days after surgery do you see DR

My doctor told me to save all my after surgery questions for him for the follow up appointment.
Unless it is a emergency of course.
When is the follow up? 1 week after? 2 weeks?......

Hi Kittycuddler,

The length of time until your post-op appointment varies from doctor to doctor. With some ladies, they had several appointments at 2, 4, and 6 weeks. Others had just a 4 or 6 week appointment.

You'll need to contact your doctor to find out when your appointment would be scheduled.

Kittycuddler -

It depends on the doctor and what you have had done, but the average seems to be 10 days to 2 weeks - usually the first post-op visit will be to have staples or sutures out (if you have them).
Your doctor should give you clear written instructions upon discharge - if he does not - check with the nurses on the floor before you leave, or call the doc's office when you get home.
And yes - by all means keep a list of question for both pre and post op. Many of your pre-op questions can be answered when you have your pre-op done at the hospital - assuming you are having one of course, .

Best of luck, and let us know how you make out.

Kitty, Your surgery is 7/2/02 correct? Did you have a pre op visit yet?that does not seem fair! Why can't you ask questions when you feel like it? I am a nurse so I did not have alot of medical questions just concerns about post op do's and don'ts. I talked to my Dr. when my questions came up!It helped my Dr. new me well !!!!!!!!I am 11 weeks post op and I was told at my 6 week check up no sit ups and no weight training that puts stress on the ab muscles for " a few more months. I m getting flabby now so I will be calling him tomarrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Well Take care and good luck with surgery! Angela

Kitty,

My doc said something similar EXCEPT she said she would see me in the hospital the day AFTER surgery with instructions (ie, driving, stairs, sex ) ---

I would hope that your doc will see you in the hospital to check on your progress!

I agree, that is something you would have to ask your dr (about when the follow up visit will be) as it seems to vary immensely from dr to dr.

My situation wasn't exactly the norm as I had a vaginal surgery in the morning and left the hospital that night. But I had a post-op visit at 4 days and then 7wks. See how different everyone's follow up visits are? And if they are telling you to ask post op questions at the follow up visit after the surgery, I would HOPE it would be soon and not 4-8wks after surgery! eek! Better ask about that.

How many days after surgery do you see DR

I saw my DR the night of surgery and both mornings I was in the hospital after surgery. I was too foggy to ask anything at that point. She took my staples out the second morning and replaced them with steri strips. I saw her in her office 3 weeks and 7 weeks post op. My office post op visits were scheduled the same time as the surgery was scheduled.

Before I was released from the hosp a nurse went over the post op instructions from my DR with me.

My preop with her (DR) was 6 weeks before surgery when I scheduled the surgery, then the week before surgery I had preop at the hospital and that's where I got instructions on bowel prep, etc. My DR called me the night before surgery to answer any last minute questions and to see how I was doing.

How many days after surgery do you see DR

I saw my Dr the day of my surgery and we talked for about a 1/2 hr prior to them giving me my pre-meds. I saw my Dr 2x's in PACU even though I was groggy he wanted to show me my pictures (I had a laproscopic hysterectomy). Since I had all the time with him, we went over again what to expect post op. I really like my Dr because I was so nervous he got me calmed down..then ofcourse the Versed (premed) REALLY calmed me down, but at that point he had gone to scrub up. I also really liked me anesthesiologist, she told me everything that she was doing and told me what she was putting in my IV.

I also already knew my Dr's associate, so I was comfortable with him, my Dr's interns were great also.

I saw my Dr's associate and his surgical interns (that were in on the surgery) 3'xs the next day..

I asked to be released at 2pm the next day, my Dr's associate came in and went over my post op recovery gave me my pain med's told me to call if I had any questions.

I saw my Dr at 1 week for a check up, then again 2 weeks later and then again 3 weeks later when he released me.
