Disability Insurance

I have a question about disability coverage and thought maybe some one else had gone through something similar. I am 13 days post-op (TAH) and received a letter from the company that handles disability claims for my employer. It seems they have granted me 4 wks & 3 days paid leave and if I am unable to return on the date they have given me, I need to have my doc turn over my entire medical file. They accept no doc notes and have no forms, but want every slip of paper from my file PLUS a list of the specific activities I can't do that prevent me from returning to work PLUS a treament plan and return to work plan which shows what I'm doing to get better - jeez! I can't believe I'm being forced to hand over my entire file, it just seems so intrusive. Does anyone know if this is legal or where I could find out about my rights in such a situation. This is really upsetting me and at this point all I want to do is !

Disability Insurance

Hi Lori,

I have never heard of this, but I can see the disability insurance company having a right to do so, although I really don't know for sure. You're right, it does seem intrusive.

From what I understand, the Disability Insurers have coverage schedules that they must go by, and any exceptions must be documented carefully and justified specifically.

My Disability Insurance company simply made a call to my DR about my extended leave and all was approved, but I'm sure they all have different policies regarding that.

You could check with the Bureau of Insurance to find out for sure.

On top of trying to recover from major surgery, the last thing we need is a hassle, huh? I feel for ya ~ I hope everything goes your way with this.
