Guess what I just did??

I took a nice relaxing BATH!
Not a *real* bath, mind you--the water came to just barely touching the tops of my thighs, so the incision wouldn't get all wet. But it may as well have been a dip in a jacuzzi! What a wonderful feeling! Bless emschlo (Elizabeth) for the idea! I feel like a new woman!
I just wanted to share this happiness with you!

hmmmm

I'm not sure but I don't think you are supposed to immerse your vagina either. You don't want to get infection in the internal stitches either.

Guess what I just did??

Kellyb,

Your post just cracked me up and hurt my swelly belly from laughing!!

How come you cannot take a regular bath? My gyn said to take daily tub soaks to help with discharge (yuck--don't have any yet) and with pain, then just to blow dry the strip across my stitches. It's strange how a lot of doctors say different things huh?

Have fun in your shallow soak!!!

(I'll write you more tomorrow..gonna get some sleep!!)

Oooooooh Kellybelle, I think you might be in trouble. I think the bath might be out too, you better be careful. Just kidding , I know it was WONDERFUL, I have been taking baths all along, DR okay'd me from day one and I have one almost everyday. It seems to help me alot with the swelly belly (even if just for a while) and helps some with discomfort too.

Congratulations. It's funny the things that mean so much to us now.

Take care. Dawn

Guess what I just did??

OOOOHHHHH - I am jealous! I will see if I can take baths tomorrow at my 6 week checkup. I was bad and went swimming the other day though...wonder if dr will notice? I didn't fill up with water though. HAHA

Well Kelly take a nice bubbly one for me. We have a hot tub in our house and its really hard not to get in. Especially being so sore at the end of the day. Hope all is well.

Guess what I just did??

Hey!!! I wanna bath too! Waah!

You know, I am going to call my DR on this one. I don't see the harm in it, if the tub is sanitized, the water very clean...I mean I wash down south each time I shower So what could be the big deal? I'm a chicken, so I'm gonna call the DR on this first, but I have been dying for a soak in the tub. And two weeks and 3 more days till my six week mark seems like forever.

It's hard to be a
when you can't spend your evenings soaking in the tub! My normal routine is to take a bubble bath EVERY night. So when the
said no baths, well, he might as well have shot an arrow through my

Since everyone's surgery is a little bit different, the safest thing to do is ask your DR when you can have a tub bath. Mine did not give permission until the six week appt.

Jealous

Dr told me NO BATH til my 6 week check up. She said it is because my cervix was removed and that where it used to be could come apart (stitches I am guessing) and cause bleeding. I have sat in shallow water to shave..swelly belly bothers me bending down to get the job done. I also am about 3 weeks...but i only have a 6 week check up and I have only been to the DR one time...and that was stitch removal...Should I be seen now? I feel fine and am getting back to normal.

Wow, it is amazing how different each situation is, I guess! The pre-printed discharge instructions I was given at the hospital said tub baths were perfectly fine after one week post-op, so I took advantage, and it felt heavenly! I had TVH, so no external incision to worry about, but I was concerned before surgery whether I'd need to avoid baths with all the vaginal stitches. I was so happy when the instructions said I only needed to wait a week for a nice soak.

I would imagine another reason some docs/hospitals don't want hysterectomy patients taking baths for awhile is because of having to carefully sit down into the tub and then get yourself back up and out again. Anyway, I was sure glad to be able to enjoy a nice soak in the tub!
