Please Help! Incision reopened itself

Hi, I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago, they just left my right ovary. A few weeks ago, I went to the ER with sudden Pelvic Pain. Ended up having Kidney stones, and Cysts and massive adhesions, needless to say, they took my last ovary. My concern is this, I woke up this am, and my belly incision was all crusted over and very bloody! It was completly healed just 2 days ago when I last saw my Gyn. So What is the deal? Has this ever happened to anyone? I did have another Cat Scan, with the Dye, and ultrasound yesterday, but I don't think that would cause the bleeding, or reopening of the incision. I have just stayed in bed and done nothing, so I can't imagine I over did it, cause I haven't done anything. Has this happened to anyone? and what do I do now? Thank you!

Call your DR. right away. Even on a holiday you need to have this taken care of. Call the ER if you can not talk to a DR. There should, however, be one on call.

Get Thee On The Phone or to the ER

If you can't get your doctor or his/her on-call partner right away, head for the ER. This isn't normal and should be looked at. The CT scan and ultrasound should not have any relation to this that I can possibly think of. I'd be concerned about infection especially.

Dr. Was called.

I called My on call Dr. and he said it was an infection, but to do nothing, but keep it clean, and see him in the morning. Guess he doesn't care too much? Or thinks It isn't that important. I will keep you posted on what he says tomorrow. Hope I am ok till then. Jen~

Me Too

(((((((((( Jen ))))))))))))
I know exactly what your going through. I had surgery on 6-25 and am 9 days post op. I woke up the morning after surgery to a huge bruise from my belly button all the way down. It's very dark purple. I had one of these before with my lap surgery 5 yrs ago and it just went away on it's own. Well, not this time. I woke up yesterday morning with what you described. My incision had started to heal very nicely, and was completly closed, then yesterday it started to "gush" blood. Well, needless to say I was very scared, and I called my He got me in right away and looked at it, and said he wants to wait and let it drain on it's own. He said I have a hematoma, and that they generally resolve on their own, by absorbing back into your system. He said it wasn't infected, and he just wanted me to keep it clean and check my temp. So, that's exactly what I'm doing. Trying very hard to be a good I'm glad you called your doctor. You will feel alot better once you have seen him and are back on the road to a successful recovery. I will keep you in my ers.

Hi there.
I'm going to get sarcastic here and it's all directed at that on-call doc. Do you think he would wait around for another 12 hours if the infection was in his belly??! I don't think so!!! Just think, you could have a 12 hour head start on getting antibiotics to clear up your infection. Don't let that doc give you the runaround. You are the best judge of how you feel and you are the one responsible for your health. Do what's best for YOU. If you have a gut feeling (oops--no pun intended here) that something is not right than something probably isn't. If I were in your situation I would be sitting on some doctor's desk at my local ER and I wouldn't move until I got some attention. I would complain very vigorously.
Best of luck.
Kinda of a lousy way to celebrate the 4th of July, isn't it?

Please Help! Incision reopened itself

I am just a mess. Yesterday was my daughters 12th b-day, I had to cancel her party, so I could go to the Hospital. I was there from 7 am till 2 pm. The day before I was at the Gyno and he ordered all those tests, because he feels bumps under one of the incisions. So, He believes I have hematomas that have developed in the muscles of my abdomin. And with the Kidney stones, I just feel like crud. And Yes, waking up to a bleeding, puss filled belly button, just makes me feel even worse. So I had my mom take the kids to celebrate the 4th, and dear hubby, took care of me. I don't want to feel sorry for myself, but right now, I feel so helpless and frustrated! My actual Dr is on vacation till the 15th, so now I am seeing her partner till she is back, and this man, he tells me that infections usually happen to people several weeks post op due to being obese. I am sorry, but what a slap in the face. I am 5'7 and weigh 175. and wear a size 14 (baggy). What a jerk! Then he says just come tomorrow morning. ARRRGHH. I realize I need to loose weight, but common, what a bad thing to say! He also said My regular Gyno is silly for having me not take Estrogen for 3 months, due to me having Endo. So he gave me premarin to start taking. He also said My PCO's (polycysitic Ovarian Disease) is now completly gone and to stop all the meds I used to take for it, Example, the acne meds, Glucophage, Weight loss meds (Xenical). I don't think he knows what the heck he is talking about. So, Right now, do I just go to the ER? Or go see him in the morning, and get more frustrated? You gals are wonderful! Thank you for the prayers and responses. They help more than you know... Jen~

You will have to base that decision on how you feel about the options you have. If you don't trust the DR you talked to, then maybe you want to try the ER where you could HOPE for a DR that makes more sense to you.

Personally, I would want to be seen and started on antibiotics sooner, not later. That's me. I don't know what your expense would be, or if that is a factor....

Good luck with this decision making. Hope you are better soon. I'm sure you are looking forward to the 15th when your DR returns!
