How Long Is One in Surgical Menopause?

I'm brand new to this wonderful website, and I've got a few questions. I've been reading about the menopause women go immediately into after having their ovaries out, and I was wondering how that worked. I'm 44 years old, never had children, and I have an August 5th hysterectomy scheduled, where they are taking out the uterus, cervix, and both ovaries. I've got severe endometriosis, with an 8 centimeter cyst in one ovary, and a 9 centimeter cyst in the other ovary. How long would you say I'd be going through menopause for?

Also, I read someone's post today that said that HRT can be expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it. I never even gave it a thought! Just how much is the stuff?

Also, can someone tell me what is involved in the pre-op? I'll be having mine on July 19th.

Just noticed your post, good question. I'd like to know the same thing. I have a 8cm cyst on my right ovary, but you and I are having the same procedure.
They just changed my date today to August 9th. How long will surgical menopause last? And do we go through another menopause later? I remmber something like that happening to a cousin of mine a long time ago, but it could have been something else they were calling menopause.
I wonder too do they give you HRT if you couldn't take the pill, cause I wasn't allowed on BC pills.
