Scared - Surgery date is July 17, 2002

Hi all. I joined yesterday after finding this site. I have a pre-op scheduled for July 15th and surgery for July 17th. I am scared out of my mind.
I was told I had severe dysplasia that was aggressive so they said they needed to treat it aggressively. My best choice was a TVH.
I have heard so many horror stories but it has helped to read the stories in this site. Thanks to everyone as it has helped to put some of my fears to rest.
Still kind of iffy about the gas, bowels, pain!! I am a wuss when it comes to pain.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences and insights.

Hi and Welcome

This is an awesome site. Just keep reading as much as you can. Now the pain, gas, etc. that just comes with it, but it isn't something you can't stand. It does go away. They also give you meds for both/all. God Bless. Just keep on reading the more you read the better you are informed.

Welcome SNJT, I'm sure you'll find lots of answers and comfort on these forums. For some reason people feel the need to tell us about the horror right before our surgeries. Please don't worry too much. While everyone's healing is different most women have an uneventful recovery. I too had the same concerns as you, now that I am on the other side I can tell you the waiting was much harder than the post-op for me. Pain was minimal and the dreaded gas pains weren't bad. At the hospital they work very hard to never let your pain go above a 3 (on scale of 1 to 10) and if you read the post-op boards you will find most women are off narcotic pain relief within the first week. Ibuprofen and Aleve seem to do the trick. Some of the worst problems deal with boredom, so make sure you have lots to read and watch. In the pull down menus on the home page there is a list of ideas for ways to ward off the boredom. This is a great website, take full advantage of it! Good luck!

Hi SNJT ~

Isn't it wonderful to come across a site like this JUST when you most need it? Like you, I have some really aggressive little critters roaming about my uterine cavity and cavorting in my cervix. What they don't know is that they aren't long for this world!

I am a and am doing all I can to make the best of what lies ahead. I am so thankful that past princesses have had the courage to speak of things that aren't always rosey.

Strength, widsom and courage.................

Welcome SNJT ! Sorry to hear you will have to have a hyst, but glad you found HysterSisters! We do recommend a second opinion before a hyst if there is any doubt in your mind.

The goal of the hospital staff is to make you as comfortable as possible, so most of us got pain relief from anesthesia and meds, and it wasn't unbearable. I had the morphine pump (PCA) for 2 days, and then switched to oral pain pills, which worked for me. Then after the first week, I only took the pain pills before bed, and took Advil during the day so I wouldn't be so sleepy.

I was lucky in that I didn't have gas pains, though it took about 12 hours before my bowels started working after surgery and I was able to pass gas. If your dr oks it, you can have Gas X on hand in case you do have pain from that.

If you haven't read the stories and hints from previous princesses, click on the 3 princesses at the top of the page and scroll down to find the pull-down menus. KittenCuddles is right in reading all you can here to be prepared and calmer for your hyst. We will be here to support you on this journey. s and best wishes!

Hi SNJT!!!

I too will be having surgery on the 17th..a total cleanout of all my girlie bits. This is a GREAT place to come for advice, inspiration and support.

Make sure you ask lots of questions at your pre-op visit. There is a list on one of the drop down menus on the main page-print it out and take it with you so you don't have to remember it all. There will be lots of things going through your mind and having it written will be VERY helpful!

I will send good vibes your way for a fast and easy recovery! Hopefully, mine will be too!!!!

Sorry you are scared. I was too. My surgery was July 2nd and I went home on July 4th. Believe me and the others who say the waiting is the hardest part! I was having second thoughts in the holding area just before surgery but am now very glad that I didn't change my mind! I am feeling great!

The only problem that I have had is constipation. So I advise you to discuss this possibility with your doctor. I did everything he doctor told me to do, but with the anethesia, pain meds and bed rest, it got really bad and the Colace only didn't work. So ask about how to help prevent that. Now I am snacking on raisins and prunes and eating really good so I can try to take care of it naturally.

Hope all goes well for you. Please post after and let us know how things went for you.

Thanks for all your words of encourgagement. It helps to know that we aren't alone. I have been reading up on various websites and such and that has helped some.

I was reading that some of you are getting tummy tucks also, is your gyn doing it? I have thought about that but.......costs, more recovery time, ......

So many thoughts run through your mind waiting....it did help to read the post-ops to help clarify many of the misconceptions/horror stories.

Does anyone have any good and easy recipes that I can give to my hubby who doesn't know how to cook and will now have to cook for himself and the kids who are 11, 6, and 18 months.

Thanks again for being there and listening and sharing.
