Myomectomy, with unclear pathology report
I was wondering if anyone has had a myomectomy with unclear
results? I had thought once the procedure was done I was home clear. They sent mine out to be biopsied to Harvard and
Stanford. My doctor said the pathologists said i have about a
one percent of it turning into uterine cancer , and do I want a
hysterectomy. But that is because they've done some study
and are supposed to be on the cutting edge of medicine. He also
said the cancer doctors would tell me right away to have surgery,
because their old school. Im so confused . Who do i listen to.
Anyone Been Here?

get more info then weigh up pros and cons
I feel for you with such conflicting information from so-called experts. I think I would do my own research, here and other sites, really think about what your needs and feelings are and how you feel now, get a second medical opinion and then decide what you feel you need to do.
Is it possible to find out if there a time element, I mean can you wait two or three months to sort things out or is it a fast-growing cancer risk? Most cervical cancers are slow growing, but I don't know about uterine ones. Wishing you all the best as you work out your future path, Linda

Myomectomy, with unclear pathology report
Hi, Sue! I hate unclear results. You know, when you send something off to biopsy, I just expect it to come back with some kind of black and white answer, and it's so unfair when it does not . Here's a for you--maybe that will help a little while you are worrying and confused.
You might like to consider going to see a gynecologist/oncologist. Take the path results with you. You may even want to see 2 different gyn/oncs. These docs are at the top of their field. They should know what the current research is. Essentially what the pathologists are telling you is that if 100 women had your results, then 99 of them would be fine and 1 would develop cancer. Is there perhaps a way they could monitor this condition so that you don't need to undergo major surgery right now? It would also be nice to know what a woman's chance is of developing uterine cancer anyway. It might help a little with your decision.
Good luck as you are looking for answers, Sue. Research this thoroughly before you make up your mind.
Here's another .

Myomectomy, with unclear pathology report
Sue,
I had a laparoscopic myomectomy about a year ago, but my fibroids were benign. Although fibroids normally are not cancerous, a very small percentage are. I would get a copy of the pathology report, take it to another gyn and get a second opinion. I highly recommend you see a gyn oncologist (if not seeing one already). Consider a third opinion if you still aren't sure what to do.
Are they saying your fibroid(s) were cancerous or that they looked suspicious? Cancer is nothing to mess around with, but I'd want to have a better understanding of exactly what my risks were.
If it turns out that you do need to have a hyst, please take heart. Yes, it is major surgery. But it can be life-saving too. We'll be here to provide support, any way we can. Be sure to check out the "Cancer Concerns" forum here at hystersisters. There are many ladies there who have had hysts because of cancer and some of them might have had experiences like yours. Best of luck Sue! Please let us know how you are doing and what you decide.

for your info
On viewing new posts, came across this one, Dare to in DC, by Laura and last posted by Judy 55. I realise it's maybe not identical to your situation but perhaps worth you taking a read. Sorry, I don't know how to send you a link.

Myomectomy, with unclear pathology report
Hey sisters, just want to say thankyou to all who replied.
It makes me feel better just hearing from you. The doctor said
the only thing I can do if I choose not to have surgery is have
ultrasound every six months. But I think I will try to find a gyn
oncologist first for a second opinion.
