Postop day 10
Hi ladies,
This is my first time here and I need some support. I am 10 days out from my LAVH/BSO and still feel like crap. I had people telling me that they had friends who had an LAVH and "got up the next day and cooked a turkey dinner" or went on vacation the second week feeling great. Well, I am still in pain "feeling like the bottom is going to drop out" when I stand more that 10 minutes AND I am having terrible back pain with shooting pains down the fronts of my legs. I am just being unrealistic about how I think I should feel? Has anyone else experienced pain like this?
I was on Oxycodone for days 3, 4 and 5, but couldn't stand the way it made me feel. I am just taking Advil now, but it's not doing the trick.

Postop day 10
Junie,
Welcome to being a Princess!!
Though you feel like **** at the moment!
This is a great website to find out if you are progressing, or if you should go to the DR. By day 10 I wasn't taking anything but Midol with Ibuprofen, which helped alot. My lower back hurt so much that first week or so, but I have sciatica, and when they put your feet up in the stirrups for the surgery (way up!), it could have made your back hurt!
Drinking alot of water helps keep the kidneys flushed as well as being hydrated, and keeps away bladder infections too.
Keep looking at the Post-op messages, and it will help you compare your symptoms, and maybe ease your mind!
Hang in there!

You're still early in your recovery, and I think it's normal to still be having pain. I still needed Darvocet for the first 3 weeks post-op. Advil alone wouldn't do it for me at 10 days post-op either!

I had a LAVH too. It is a major surgery and the initial recovery time is 6 - 8 weeks. Each woman and each surgery can be different. If you still need to take yor pain medications, take them. I took the prescribed Percocet for the first couple weeks and then switched to Aleve. If the meds you are taking are not keeping your pain under control call your doctor and see what else they can give you. Everyone has a different pain threshold and maybe you need something different. Also, if you are continuing to have pain your doctor may want to see you.
Pamper yourself! Rest, water, short walks, and follow all your doctor's post-op instructions.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Welcome. I am sorry you are feeling so bad. Occasionally ladies who have either a LAVH or a TVH have leg pain from being in the stirrups for so long during the proceedure. Hopefully that will ease up soon.
You are still very early in your recovery. Everyone reacts differently to pain and everyone has differently levels of pain after a surgery. Rest and relax.
I hope you are feeling up to cooking that turkey very soon!

I am 9 days post op
I am still feeling really weak, the pain is mostly gone though. My doctor didn't give me any pain meds other than a 2-3 day pain patch immediately after surgery, he doesn't think they are necessary! I also, am having trouble sleeping, it is really driving me crazy, he won't give me anything for that either.
The pain you are describing down your legs and lower back were a few of the many symptoms I endured before the surgery, I had a softball size fibroid on the very back of my uteris pressing down on my spine along with other and the pain was driving me crazy. I know I have been laying around alot, house is so small nowhere to really take a walk except up and down stairs which I have had to do since day one.
Anyway, just a comment to let you know you are NOT alone, this takes time, many weeks to several months to recover, and my surgery was supposed to be the simplest kind.
Best of luck in your recovery!
