Is a fever normal?

I only returned from the castle today (three days post op) and had several problems after surgery requiring a blood transfusion among other things. The doctor sent me home on two different antibiotics, but I didn't run a fever while in the castle. It has just started today since I have been home. Not really high, just around 100 degrees. Is the uncommon? I would call my doctor but really hate too. He gave me a number I could contact him this weekend, but he has already been up at all hours of the day and night because of problems I had in the castle. If it is serious I will call him, but would rather wait till Monday when he is in the office if it doesn't get any higher. Any suggestions.

Fever

I ran a low-grade fever while I was in the hospital, especially at night. The nurses would have me use the breathing machine and cough, and my temperature would go down at least a degree in a few minutes every time. (It's very important to deep breath and cough after surgery. It can prevent pneumonia.)

Try that and some Tylenol. And call your doctor if your temperature goes any higher than 100 degrees.

s,

Lisa

Thanks

I will do that. I was thinking it may be because I still am not moving my bowels hardly at all. Just a little gas here and there. Plus my appetite isn't what it should be. However, I drink everything in sight. I will call the doctor if it goes above 100.

Is a fever normal?

Definatly call if it is 100 or higher (we often tell our pateints 100.4 or higher). Don't worry about disturbing the Dr's rest, that is his job, when he went to med school, he knew what he was getting in to! It could be you just need to do some deep breathing, but you also might have some sort of infection.......how does your incision look? Any redness, warmth, swelling or icky drainage? Any burning when you urinate....or are you peeing all the time? These things could be other signs of infection....OR, you could have an infection with no other cause, or other symptoms I didn't mention. Hope your temp goes down!!! I know just having a fever, even a low one, can make ya feel icky!
