Post-op travel

I am scheduled for a TAH/BSO on September 4. We are scheduled to take a road trip October 11, driving 3 1/2 hours one day and 3 1/2 the next, staying at our destination (a nice quiet beach area) 8 nights, then doing the two part drive home again. The trip has been planned a lot longer than the surgery has. My husband is looking forward to it and I hate to cancel it. I am 48 and in pretty good shape. My husband will be doing the driving. Do you think this is madness?

Post-op travel

Hi Betina,

Every surgery and recovery is different. I went on a three hour car trip at 5 weeks, to a trade show, spent a night in a hotel, then the next day the return 3 hour trip. I was pretty uncomfortable on the trip home. That was partly due to all the walking around at the show.

But once you are there and can relax it may be the best medicine there is for your recovery, as long as all you do is relax. What does your DR recommend?

Please update your profile and include your surgery date. We like to be able to wish all of our ladies in waiting best wishes before they go to the castle.

Best wishes!

Hi Bettina,

Welcome to Hystersisters!! I'm glad that you found us, but sorry that it's because you are going to have to have surgery.

As Mary Lou said, each woman is different and each surgery is just a little bit different, too. I had a TVH and at about 3 weeks post-op I drove myself 2 hours away from home and then returned the following day, after clearing it with my doctor. I was totally worn out, but I was able to do it.

If you haven't already found them, be sure to read the pre-op and post-op hints that are toward the bottom of the main page of this site (click onto the Princess logo at the top left).

Be sure to let us know if you have other questions and concerns. We care.

's

Hi Bettina,

You have 5 weeks and a couple of days between your scheduled surgery and scheduled beach retreat. I suspect your Dr. will allow you to make the trip. You may need to take frequent breaks. The best way to be ready for the trip is to take care of yourself after surgery. Follow your Dr's orders and do not overexert yourself.
