Guess what I read about Premarin

I had wonder about what all was in Premarin. Well I read on a site about all the different estrogens in Premarin, but in addition it does contain progestins and testosterones and androgens its no wonder why so many women do well on it. I was looking for Estratab and wondering how women do on this. Apparently estratest is part of this family, all this time I thought it was attached to Premarin. I'm still waiting for the perfect site that explains it all in detail. Any ideas? I'm not sure I'm sold on this patch-Vivelle dot. I"v just been having trouble reaching the feel good thing.

sodium 17 beta-dihydroequilin sulfate
sodium 17 alpha-dihydroequilenin sulfate
sodium 17 beta-hydroequilenin sulfate
sodium equilenin sulfate
sodium 17 beta-estradiol sulfate

Premarin:

estrogenic:
sodium estrone sulfate
sodium equilin sulfate
sodium 17 alpha-dihydroequilin sulfate
sodium 17 alpha estradiol sulfate
sodium 17 beta-dihydroequilin sulfate
sodium 17 alpha-dihydroequilenin sulfate
sodium 17 beta-hydroequilenin sulfate
sodium equilenin sulfate
sodium 17 beta-estradiol sulfate
sodium delta 8,9-dehydroestrone sulfate

other substances:
5,7,9 (10) estratrien-3beta, 17-beta-diol
17 alpha-dihydro-delta 8,9-dehydroestrone
17 beta-dihydro-delta 8,9-dehydroestrone
5,7,9, (10) estratrien-3 betal-ol-17-one
2-hydroxy-estrone
2-methoxy-estrone

Guess what I read about Premarin

Lou,
Do you have the link to the site where you found this information? I've heard that Premarin does NOT contain progestin, it is estrogen only. Perhaps the site was talking about PremPro, which is Premarin with progestin added.

Guess what I read about Premarin

It's relatively unprocessed so it does contain contain minute amounts of about 27 steroids. But aside from the main ingredients (the 7 in Cenestin) these are considered to be so minute that they are not considered to be the pharmacological ingredients. I'm sure some women can tell the difference but I believe the majority of women who sometimes prefer Premarin is because the liver doens't break it down well, so levels stay higher between doses. On the other hand, that's why some women don't do well on it--their levels just keep climbing up.

So, for effective purposes, Premarin is estrogen only and the FDA labels it as such.

Estratest is by a different manufacturer, so it's conjugated and esterified but it's only 2 of the 27 steroids traceable in Premarin.

Lou,
A site I like that explains all the different HRTs available is "The Survivor's Guide to Surgical Menopause."

Guess what I read about Premarin

This is interesting. I now take cenestin and used to take premarin. It seems like the cenestin has taken longer to get into my system than the premarin did. I wonder why. Also, it seems like I may need a higher dose of cenestin whereas on premarin I only needed .625
