MY CASTLE STORY (sorry long)

Well, I did it TAH/RSO (left ovary out last yr). I arrived at the hospital at 6 am and was immediately taken to the pre op waiting area to get the IV and all the questions, etc. One nurse asked me what I was having done, and I looked at her like dont you know??? Then she said I see it on your papers but I have to hear you say the word Hysterectomy. So I did, I thought that was a bit strange. The A man came over and introduced himself, and I told him I was afraid I was gonna have a panic attack ( I have panic disorder), so I asked for something for my nerves. He agreed and said he would be right back. It seemed like forever, then a nurse came & the Dr came to talk to me and started crying, where are my nerve meds! The A man finally came back and gave me something then before I knew it I was in the OR and gone for the count. I dont remember recovery room at all. I woke up in a private room (surprise), Dr thought I would feel move comfy there so he got me one.The whole day is a blur.. gave me lots of demeral shots and percocets. That night I woke up with a horrible feeling that I needed to pee. (I had a catherder in). I begged the Dr and Nurses to take it out it was killing me! But they said no, the dr wanted to make sure I didnt get up till the next day. So the next Morning they FINALLY took it out. My call button on my bed was broken so I couldnt get a nurse to get out of bed, had to wait for the breakfast lady to come in around 8am to get me a nurse (its like they forget about you!). They gave me another button to press which didnt do any good, they would answer when I called but It would take as long as an hr to get them in my room. Needless to say, the nursing staff was not attentive at all! Barely helped me out of bed, and forget telling me anything about incision care, etc. I began taking little strolls down the hall and I would get to the nurses station and there would be 8 of them just sitting around joking and playing games. I was like, ok, this is why you NEVER come and check on me. I was glad to leave saturday (2 days later). I feel I am healing ok. I have some pain, but I guess that is expected. I do wonder about the buring type pain I have near the incision area? Really from my belly button down, through bothe sides. I have to tell you, on monday night the oddest thing happened...I went to the bathroom and discovered that my vagina was swollen! My "lips" (dont know what else to call them) were twice the size they should be. I freaked out and called the dr. She said that it does happen sometimes, and to but ice on it. I did that and the next day it was gone. Very wierd!
Thank you all!!
Donna
