Incisional Hernia...

I have been reading any, and all posts that have to do with the dreaded "swelly belly". I had a TAH on 4/18/02, which was complicated with an incision infection. Shortly after my gave me my 6wk ok, I began noticing a lot of swelling so I figured I was pushing it with the situps, etc. Well, it has kept on swelling and growing larger, so I finally went back to and have been told that I have an incisional hernia!!

My understanding is that these occur when the ab muscles don't heal (or aren't allowed to heal) correctly.

Take your time recovering, even when you feel good and think your stronger/healthier than most you can be setting yourself up for a major setback. I can now look forward to some repair surgery (haven't met with the surgeon yet).
Pretty depressing.

Anyway, thanks for letting me sound off and hopefully this message will stop someone else from overdoing it.

I have heard that hernias are not that uncommon following a hyst. I'm sorry that you're having to undergo another surgery. I'm sending some s for you. Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

Incisional Hernia...

(((((Cduewe))))))) I'm so sorry you had to learn the hard way that some doctors sometimes "forget" to tell us to s-l-o-w-l-y resume our normal routine

I too have seen that hernias are not that uncommon after abdominal surgeries. Don't beat yourself up. Sending lots of s your way.

Incisional Hernia...

I to have a hernia.....

I've had mine for about 4 months now as I have really not wanted to deal with another surgery AGAIN....but the pain is at a leval that I can no longer put it off as much as I would like to.

I see my surgen this Fri to see what he has to say about it. mine is mid-line in my abs and I have another one developing under my belly button. I was told it is just from having weak ab muscles after surgery...sometimes it really is nothing that you do yourself...the area was weak to begin with and just lifting a gal of milk the wrong way can make it pop.

hope this helps you to know your not the only one sweetie!!!

There are a few of us out here going thru the same thing.
