Worried about post-op

Thank God I found this site ! Wednesday I am having a vaginal hyster and a TVT. I don't know yet if it will be a total or just uterus. The doc isn't going to say one way or the other because he doesn't know what he'll find in there. I have fibroids and have had other troubles for 2 1/2 years. Just got the courage to have this done. I am only 39 and scared to death that I am going to wake up with a total . Even as a nurse, I still don't know what to expect if I have a total. Any insight, help, suggestions of any kind would be sooo appreciated! I don't want to turn into a different person especially since I have 2 small children to worry about. And I have only 2 days left. Emails welcome!
Thanks,
Suzanne

Worried about post-op

Welcome Suzanne,
I realize it's difficult to understand what's going on. Usually you and your doctor make a decision as to what else needs to be removed. In my case, the GYN sugggested everything. I asked if I should keep at least one ovary, and he said "because of my age..." I guess he feels that at 51 it's better to take everything now rather than go back in again in the future. Less chance of ovarian cancer, etc.

You're going to need the 6 weeks recovery regardless of what's removed!

Worried about post-op

I was 27 when I had my total hyst. My doctor suggested taking it to help avoid the possibility of future problems. I have 2 small children and at first I felt like a different person, but my kids have pulled me through, my husband was also instrumental in this.

You will survive this, just be strong!!

And remember we are here for you!

Worried about post-op

Hi Suzanne,
I just read you post. I had my hysterectomy July 30 and am doing great! I had mine done through the laproscope and can hardly believe how easy it has been! I am 42 and my doctor thought because of my age that we should do a total. I have not had any problems and am wearing the climara patch. I honestly feel better than I did before the surgery! I don't know what will be the outcome of your surgery, but if it is a total hysterectomy I know you will do fine. If you have any questions or want to chat here is my email. I would love to hear from you! luanne_lee@hotmail.com. My thoughts and prayers will be with you!
