d&c and anesthesia

Well I am scheduled for a d&c and hysterescopy and have been told my anesthesia will be local with mac. I have to admit I am a little squeamish and really would prefer to be out, but I had breast surgery last summer and I think they used a sedative because I never felt pain, but could hear them off and on. Anyone give me any info on this that would be great. Just the thoughts of them up there scraping.... YOWCH....

You should discuss your concerns with your doc - I had a d&C many years ago - local plus a sedative - and I was fine - I couldn't even really remember much of what happened. Everyone's different and there are different "levels" of sedation.

The doc doesn't want you to be in pain during the procedure - so talk about your fears.

d&c and anesthesia

If they use the same sedative that they used when I had a breast biopsy I will be fine with that I think because I do not remember much of that. I think it is just the thought that drives me crazy. You would think with everything that I have had I would be fine because I have been poked and prodded more times that I care to remember. I will make sure I discuss this with my doc when I see him pre-op.

Thanks,

Faith

Oh man, I wouldn't go through it without sedation. Or that twlight stuff is really good. I had that when they removed four impacted molars! it was great! Best of luck!

I was given the option of how much sedation I wanted when I had my D & C. I chose to be completely out because I did not want to be aware of the entire procedure. Discuss this with your doctor - it is usually a personal decision and most doctors will go with whatever makes the patient most comfortable.

Hi there, I had D & C in the past and believe me I had them 3 times. All those times, I was knocked out. I much prefered that and that made the time goes by much faster. I only felt like 2 minutes then it was over with. So, it is a personal ting. It is something you will have to decide on this. For me, being knocked out was better than waiting around for 15 minutes and see what the dr is doing if he ever lets me see anything. I preferred no to as I thing the camera would be looking pretty gross!

good luck with your decision.
