I want the real story on a retroverted uterus

I have a retroverted uterus. My gyn told me this doesn't causes any problems at all. I have heard though that it can cause back pain at least. Does anyone know if a retroverted uterus can cause any problems in and of itself?

I want the real story on a retroverted uterus

i had a retroverted uterus for 26 years. it would lay or touch something like a nerve or something on my spine the whole 26 years. it was painful to stand still and cook, do dishes (i had all boys), iron, and towards the end i could not even sit down or bend down. i was in severe pain. the bad pain was the last year. i do not know, if knowing what i know now would i wait 26 years to have it done. i never complain so a lot of times my DH called me names--because he did not understand. he is much better now. he will admit he was young dumb and full of -----.
if you want to e-mail me ---do so. ..........janice72

My uterus was also retroverted (or "tipped"). I never had any symptoms with mine, but if it is near a nerve or you have adhesion-forming endo, you can certainly wind up with pain, as Janice says.

That would not be the sole reason for performing a hysterectomy, though, unless you have the sort of problems that Janice describes...

A retroverted uterus can cause pain

I had a retroverted uterus that caused me tremendous pain whenever I made love. I was told I couldn't get pregnant because of it, but that wasn't true.

In the last year before my SAH/BSO this June, I always had pain whenever I tried to arch my back, bend at the waist or go to the bathroom.

For me, the hysterectomy was a blessing by getting rid of that backward old thing!

Good luck to you in deciding what is best for you!

I want the real story on a retroverted uterus

Hi ,

I also "had" a retroverted uterus but it did not cause me any pain. Or, maybe I should say, it didn't cause any pain that I didn't think was normal. I did not even know I had one until about 7 years ago when my new DR told me. My mother also has one and has never had problems.

I have heard of them causing back pain and pinching nerves during intercourse. There is a procedure called a "ventrosuspension" that moves your uterus into a new position if it is determined by your DR that this is the cause of your pain. Maybe you could ask him about it. Read all you can!

Good Luck!
