yoga

Hi everyone,

I'm 4 and half months post TAH. Feeling great, finally went back to yoga last week. My wound has been stinging since and is uncomfortable.
Should I stop or is this normal.

Hi jos! Just my opinion here, but I'd say, if it hurts, don't do it! Maybe you're not quite ready for some of those stretches yet. Are there certain 'poses' you can do that don't stretch quite so much? Or can you do another form of exercise for a while? (Walking and swimming are good.)
Good luck!

Don't Give Up - Just Take It Easy!!

Just to let you know - It's been actually 3 months since my surgery and I recently started doing yoga and pilates, adding it to my exercise program of walking, dance & weights -

I've been extremely guilty for starting out too fast and then having to spend most of my summer on the couch so I started really slowly and went at my own pace! - I can now happily say that I feel great - I started with my beginning video tapes (Rodney Yee, Karen Voight) and now I'm back to the tapes I used to use (Bryan Kest, Mark Blanchard)

Yoga has been instrumental in helping me get back into shape and getting those kinks out of my body and strengthening my abs - I highly recommend it to everyone -

I have felt stinging around my incision while I'm exercising but I find that if I stop and rest - the next day, I can go further or I don't feel any pain at all -

I definitely agree with the rest of those who say stop when you feel pain but don't give up and stop completely! - just start out slower the next day - bit by bit, you'll get stronger and stronger and truly on the road to recovery

Feel free to contact me directly if you want to talk further

yoga

Hi Jos,

I'm 4 and a half months post op. I started yoga again at 6 weeks but had to take it very, very gently. Gentle stretching and breathing exercises only, plus the meditation. As soon as I got 'tender' I eased off and sat out the exercise.

Getting sore and tender is natures way of saying 'hey, this is a little too much'. But, I really feel that Yoga has helped me to a very speedy recovery from an abdominal hysterectomy. It also helped with the post op tiredness and the depression caused by the anaesthetic.

Great way to get rid of that post op stomach as well!!!

Keep with it but don't do too much. If you listen to your body you won't come to any harm.

Email me if you want to chat.

Take care of yourself

Sue
